So I found the perfect baby food. Moxie will come right up and take her meds out of the syringe, no sitting on her and force feeding it to her. YAY! The flavor is Blueberry and pear. I’ve tried Blueberry and apple before, but she didn’t like it as much. I’ve tried Pineapple and pear, she didn’t like it. Banana and strawberry a no. Mashed fresh bananas, no. She will only willingly eat it with Blueberry and pear.

Seems amazing correct? Wrong! The store I buy it has have them labeled with a red tag and are are on major discount. I’m assuming they are discontinuing the flavor? I don’t know why though, so I’m torn between buying a bunch of jars of it…(if there are any left.)

So I’m just trying to decide what to do. I currently have 2 jars, so at least enough for a week or two. Any input would be helpful!

Baby food is pretty cheap so check out the expiration date and buy a little more than you think you’ll need to get her through the upcoming meds.

if you have a blender or a food processor or certain kinds of juicer.. baby food is easy enough to make..

skin and seed the pear.. throw it in with the berries

Agree with scuba. If you can’t find any, try making some. I spent all afternoon making and freezing baby food for Everly.

If you find any more with the red tag, buy a few extras, as they are cheap and baby food keeps for a while. If not, you could make some like scuba and LPT said.

Okay guys, I just didn’t know *why* they were getting rid of that flavor (and a few others by that brand), and didn’t want to feed Moxie something that could potentially have something dangerous in it. (Like mold, fungus ect.) But now that I’m thinking about it they probably would have just taken it off the shelf instead of lowering the price and trying to sell it out…
I’m just a worry wart! lol!

Moxie — they wouldn’t sell it if there was something wrong. It probably isn’t a big seller at that store or possibly for the manufacturer so either that store is discontinuing it or the manufacturer. Watch the dates on the jars though.

It’s probably just the last bottles of a flavor that’s being discontinued because it’s not popular or the raw ingredients have become too expensive, just check the expiring date. If you need lots of it you could stock up and put it in the freezer f ex in an ice-cube mold and thaw it “to order”.

Baby food that has sth bad in it is withdrawn, not sold at a discount. It would be a major health scandal if babies were poisoned by bad food that some store sold them.

Yeah, I realized that like right after I posted the thread…I sure felt dumb!

They are in glass jars, so how should I go about freezing it if I buy a bunch? Glass usually breaks if frozen so…

If the expiring date is close in time, you’d have to open the jars and spoon the contents into f ex an ice-cube mold and freeze it. Glass jars would definitely break in the fridge when the water-contents freeze and expand.

Once it’s frozen in the ice-cube mold you can take out the cubes and keep them in double plastic bags and they will keep a long time in the freezer. I keep ice-cubes of mashed pineapple and mashed cooked pumpkin in my freezer if the bunnies should need some because those things can’t always be bought fresh here. I don’t fill the individual ice-cube molds completely because I want each cube to be the size of a serving.

So I did the math and think I’ll need about 4 more jars to get Moxie through all of her meds. Think I’ll go buy 10.

Moxie — now that sounds like something I would do!

Bam — how do you thaw the pumpkin quickly? I have cans of it but haven’t opened any for the buns to sample (make sure they like it before we need to use it with CC or something with picky Moshi “don’t try anything the first few times its offered”).

I chop it finely and sort of mash it to a fine fine pure with a good knife and then it has to get room temp, the pumpkin can be thawed in the microwave but the pineapple of course can’t be heated or the enzymes (that perhaps are useless, but bunny-owners cling to anything that may help) are denatured by heat. Stuff thaw more quickly if you put it on sth metal that has room-temp, though obviously do NOT use metal if you’ll put it in the micro-wave =)

I’ve never succeeded in getting mine to eat any of it except by syringe-feeding it to them,
