Coming home from school, I always let Bun Bun out of his cage for the rest of the day (till I go to bed). So that is what I did today. About an hour or two, I go and check on him and he’s on the stairs sleeping but next to him is a spot of blood, or pee, or neither?! He always uses his litter box but this was like just one spot. It’s not big or anything. It didn’t smell like pee either nor did it look like blood. Around his scent gland area is the same color of whatever it is. I don’t know how to link photos so hopefully this’ll work. http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums…u0rtmi.jpg

I started wiping before I realized a picture would probably help others. My mom wants to “wait a few days before calling the vets” but I know that a few days is a really long time for a sick bunny so I’m hoping this isn’t serious and if it is, she’ll realize we need to go to the vets with your guys’ opinions.

I couldn’t see the photo, it says your album is private. Hopefully some more members with better education about this matter will come on soon. ((((Vibes)))) that it’s nothing serious!

What color is his urine normally? My bun has some darkish urine, and once had a redish urine. Has there been any changes in his diet, behavior?

I have seen the pictures. It kind of looks like blood to me. Has there been anymore spots like that since those? I also wonder about his diet. I know some food can change the color of urine. How is his behavior is he eating and pooping normally? I would keep an eye on him and see if things get worse. I hope its nothing serious. ((((Vibes))) for Bun Bun.

Hmmm, It’s not unusual for bunny pee to vary broadly in colour, but that does look a bit pinkish. Did you keep the paper towel to see what colour it dried ? I think a trip to the vet would be a good idea as it might be a UTI and by treating it early you can save some of the cost of prolonged antibiotics. Basically any condition treated in the early stages is going to be a cheaper option as allowing a condition to get worse can lead to longer costlier treatments and a very unhappy bunny. I would put it to your Mum that by delaying an examination and treatment she could be allowing a simple inexpensive issue to become costly and more complicated.

I agree with Roberta. I recently had to take one of my rabbits to the vet and he was diagnosed with a UTI. They also checked to see if he had bladder stones as well. He was on meds for about 10 days and is doing great now. If possible get a sample of his urine or show the paper towel to the vet. It will be helpful. Let us know how things go.

He’s acting normal and eating normal. He gets bluegrass hay and 1/8 cup of KMS pellets. Sadly, my mom threw away the paper towel so I can’t see it as I can’t seem to find it. (lol yes I looked through the trash) Bun Bun doesn’t usually get a whole bunch of veggies because certain ones set his stomach off and I’m still figuring out which veggies it is. I’m going to put paper towels in his litter box so when he pees I can see what color it is. Mom says if it’s the same color, she’ll take him to the vets. Don’t know if I should pray it’s normal so I know he’s fine or if I should pray it’s a weird color so he goes to the vets and I can make sure he’s okay.

The color that shows on my phone may be different, but it looked like orangish pee to me — the color my bunnies pee when they’ve had red veggies or kale. I agree with the others about the vet though.

Hard to say since it has soaked into the carpet. I want to say pee.

He did have a little bit of kale in the morning before I left for school… Maybe that was it? I still don’t know why there was only a little spot of it on the carpet though. The rest of the day, he used his litter box completely fine.

One accident doesn’t mean much. If he suddenly starts missing the box on a regular basis, then I would be more concerned.

Honestly, it looks like pee to me and kale can definitely cause an orange-ish tint.

Alright, thank you all for your help if he doesn’t use his litter box regularly, my mom will definitely call the vets. His yearly check up is soon so if he has any problems, they’ll be detected right away.

                                      The color isn’t that weird.

It’s probably too late now, but you can do a simple home test on stains to see if they are blood. Pour some hydrogen peroxide on it and see if it reacts. If it’s blood, it will foam, get warm, and disappear. Peroxide doesn’t react with plain urine. It does react with some other substances, such as yeast if you want to see what the reaction is like.

The color looks like my rabbits’ pee does when they’ve had fresh greens. If you can, do the peroxide test. Bunnies can get red pee from plant pigments or spontaneously due to porphyrins.

That’s very interesting Eepster, I didn’t know that.
