Hi all. So last night Olive didn’t eat his dinner and he didn’t poop. All day today I’ve been nursing him through what I’m fairly certain is stasis. He seems to be improving–eating more on his own, he’s more active than before and I’ve seen a few poops. YAY!

However, I’ve just noticed that on his poops there are pieces of a brown jelly-like substance. It’s just sticking to the poops, not totally coating it. I’ve been reading that buns recovering from stasis may have mucus on their poop, but I’m not sure if that’s what this is.

Just looking for some more informed input here. Is this jelly sticking to his poop a result of his stasis?

        Thanks in advance!

Mucus is the result of inflammation of the intestinal lining. So it could be a result of the stasis, depending on what the initial problem was. If he’s pooping now, then that is a good sign. I would monitoring him closely. If the mucus continues, then you’ll want to consult with a vet to make sure something else isn’t wrong.

I second LBJ, keep a close eye on him. I saw brown jelly on Bam’s poop once after a bout of stasis/gas that I (with the help of BBers) could manage at home. Then he just got well. It was like 2 years ago, no jelly on poop after that. So keep an eye.

I agree, it’s not unusual to see this after gi stasis. Normally just in first lot of poop during recovery.

Hope he’s doing better now. Do you know what may have triggered the gut troubles?
