As usual after work I went to check up on my babies and there fecals ..So that’s when I noticed Bacci’s Fecal. I don’t know how to describe it. So am just going to post the link to this post. Need advice/opinion. I am not posting the whole pic here just in case there are others who doesn’t wish to see it.

That’s mucus on his poop. It can be clear, but it can also be colored. I would get Bacci to a vet ASAP. Mucus is caused by inflammation of the intestinal lining, but it can be the result of numerous things so you need a vet to get a proper diagnosis. It could be bacteria or it could be a parasite. These things are seen often in young bunnies, especially when they are weaned too soon. It can be serious, again, vet ASAP.

          Poor little Bacci. =(

I have already applied for the vet visit form today. Waiting for their call. I hate it how things are here Maldives.

As I have explained in Bacci introducing thread, there’s a Vet in Ministry of Fisheries and Agricultural here in Maldives. In order to show them to a Vet I have to fill a form and submit it to them and afterwards either within 3 days or after 3 day he would visit my house for the check up they do this only on work days. BUT I am calling to their office as I am typing right now…. Is theres anything I could do for a instant relief til the vet comes?

I don’t know of anything you can do, but make sure they know there is a significant amount of thick green mucus in his poop.

Ok noted. If necessary I will ditch work to do it. I just called that office and they said the two girl who are in charge of arranging those veterinary service appointments is not at their seat at the moment. But if I go to there office around 1:00pm I will be able to meet them to fix a time. Its 10:26am at the moment here. So I will go at 1:00pm to argue if necessary to bring the Vet today.

Yes I will, I might sound calm on the post but really I am panicking to my very core. I even changed my Lunch time to 1 so that I could go there. now its 11:00am and I am so anxious to leave. And I think the Asthma isn’t helping any better.  I did some researched online to calm myself but its not helping either. It say the vet probably will give some antibiotic but I should ask for probiotics too. Right?

So I went to their office and insisted to to make an appointment for today after working hours. I thought it would be a lot harder to get the Vet’s number so I was prepared to cry/throw a tantrum if need. But the girl in the Veterinary service department just simply gave his handset number and she insisted to call right away if I need a consult for today. Hehe. So I called him, he asked me if it was urgent and I didn’t know how to react to that question so I kept saying “ahh inflammation..he got inflammation” Damn my nervous tick. And he said he will come visit to my place after 7:00pm.

And afterwards I went and rushed to see how Bacci is doing and his fecals …No frigging sign of mucus at all…… What is happening?!!

That’s why we always take pics to the vet so if it doesn’t happen there they can see what we are talking about.

I do have the picture. I can only show it to the vet once he comes to visit.

You can also keep any offending matter in a small plastic bag or container to show them.

Do not panick. Rule nr 1 of rabbit ownership.

Mucus in stools signify a irritation of the large intestine.

Mucus in stools doesn’t necessarily signify infection, it may be “just” be an irritation. It’s common after a bout of stasis. Probiotics would be good whether you get abs or not since theis may be caused by a gut bacterial flora that isn’t optimal. Since Bacci is so young, it’svery important that you’re getting a vets opinion. But do not panic because that is contraproductive.

Keep him isolated from Tokii. Perhaps you already are doing that.

I have never seen that before. Please let us know what the vet says. Yes pictures are good to have and I would if you hadn’t kept the offending stool. My vet always wants samples of that kind of stuff when I take my bunnies to vet if they aren’t feeling well. I hope its nothing too serious.

First of all am so sorry for not updating at all. I would have updated if the internet connection was there back at home and as Friday and Saturday is weekends for us I had to hold my breath piling the news until Sunday when I come back to office. I swear I have been begging my partner for internet connection thing. He keeps forgetting. Even when I am right next to him poking. Fix it, Fix it, Fix it.

And thank you all for the respond. I am so happy that you guys do feel concern and think about us. And thank you all for the vibes and comforting.

So the Vet came on Thursday. Checked him and confirmed its inflammation but not that severer. But it was good thing I called him before it got worse. Gave antibiotic for two days and said afterwards I could give him yogurts as a Probiotics. His poops seems fine now. But I notice his pee color changed but right after the antibiotic medicine ended the pee color changed back to normal so I didn’t felt the need to panic about it. Hes eating and drinking good. Thank you all. Really thank you all.

LBJ: Hey its not a problem, honestly if it weren’t for the panic I wouldn’t have gone to that place and if I hadn’t gone to that office it would have taken 3 days for the Vet to come.

                                              THANK YOU ALL!!

And I also found out that the Vet hadn’t come across bunny owner like me yet in Maldives with all the litter training and all. I didn’t know to feel proud, happy or sad with the news. ??

And also he said since he is a mobile he perform spaying at the homes. OOOOOoook how should I react to that too??

Great news and it sounds like the vet is a bit bunny savvy which is awesome given the lack of them in the area. Most vets aren’t experienced in anyway with exotics so fate seems to be smiling on you. If he is the only vet available and also treats wildlife he probably has an area specifically set up for treatments and surgery. You can ask a few questions to find out his experience with desexing bunnies. What kind of anesthia he uses, what pain meds and post care he recommends.
For probiotics yoghurt is OK but large amounts of dairy aren’t good for them. You could set up a first aid kit for your bunnies, check out the main page under Care info. Things like Simethicone (baby gas drops/infacol) for mild bouts of gas or stasis onset. Papaya cream for little cuts or sore feet, probiotic tablets suitable for bunnies, stiptik pencil aslo for any little knicks or cuts. Tinned mashed pumpkin and critical care for hand feeding if necessary at any time, especially after spay/neuter.

Thank Roberta, I feel the same way too. I did ask him if he had spayed any. He said he hadn’t. He does cats though and I didnt ask with the rest of the animal type. Yeah that probably the best if I prepare first aid kit for them.Although am not sure I will be able to get many resources here. For a starter I even tried to hunt down stiptik pencil, yet no luck. But I am not giving up. I am happy I get to show them to a Vet, that’s a big step for me. You know how crazy it is when they need the most, we get a lot of courage and brave to do certain stuffs, just for them? hehe So I yeah I ain’t giving up.

Once again, thank you for the advice.

Stiptik used to be available readily with mens shaving accessories but now so many men use electric razors it is not so easy to get. It could be out there under different names though. You can use pure corn starch and it works as well to stop any small bleeding.

So is this like a van/bus that is set up to be a mobile clinic? I know in some areas, they have mobile vet offices to bring services such as spaying/neutering to areas where people may not be able to access these services easily. If he has never done a bunny though, I would be a bit worried. Hopefully he knows enough to treat bunnies. Sounds like he knew what he was talking about with regards to the inflammation. Did he do any tests to make sure it wasn’t a parasite? And yes, my vet said yogurt is okay to use as a probiotic, but in small quantities (dairy isn’t the best for bunnies).

No no, No van/bus thing. He just drop by with his big bag. Hehe. Yeah, I was a bit worried too. He seems to know a lot about bunnies. I just wish he did spaying/neutering with bunnies so that I could rely on him when my babies need to. So far Toki hadn’t showed any naughty behavior. Which is a great relief.*Fingers crossed*

And the Vet did mention not to give much of yogurt. He seems to know what hes doing.
