So it’s been a year since midnight passed away and I got a new bunny! He is a dwarf hotot and is only about 3 months old. When I had midnight, he pretty much stayed out of his cage whenever I was home. For the longest time he didn’t even have a cage, just a dog carrier where he went at night. I only got the cage because I was leaving for the weekend, and he had to stay at home. But with the new rabbit, since he’s so small, I wonder if leaving him out all day will be ok? He only has access to the living/dinning room and kitchen. All doors are closed during the day anyway. So he can’t go anywhere where I can’t see him. Do any of you guys let your dwarf or mini rabbits have free roam?

Well I have a Netherland Dwarf – 1.5 pounds and approx. 5 years old that is free roam for my whole house upstairs and downstairs…

I don’t think it’s a matter of size but rather a matter of can you trust them to be free roam and are they litterbox trained.

Like Sarita was saying, it’s not so much the size of the rabbit, but how much you can trust it ect.)

My bun is 8.5 pounds and I’ve been working on getting her free range during the day. She’s just SOO naughty! So I think it’s more behaviour of your bun.

Congrats on the new bun by the way!

              Yay! New bun is fun!

I agree with the others. He has to be trustworthy and litter trained, at least for pee. At his age, I would say that he’s too young for free range right now. Once he is neutered and given time to mature, you can start increasing his out time. I personally wouldn’t really consider having him 24/7 free range until he’s about a year old.

You know, I would trust Wooly to be free range. He’s a good boy. Leopold is chronically naughty. So poor Wooly has to suffer because Leopold can’t be trusted around most things. LOL

Yes, one bad apple can spoil the bunch with bonded pairs, trios, etc… :-\
