My rabbit Jude turned 7 months old this past Saturday and I’ve been (ever since then) feeding him only 1/4 a cup of pellets per day and giving him a little more vegetables per night because according to the house rabbit society, rabbits 7 months – 1 year old should eat 1/2 a cup of pellets per 6 pounds of body weight and he only weighs 3.6 pounds which is about half so 1/4 would be more like it compared to his body weight right? Should I instead give him 1/3 a cup of pellets or is 1/4 a cup right?

My bunnies are 3 lbs, 3 lbs, and 4 lbs and all get about 1/8 cup of pellets per day, split between two meals. They also get salad every night and unlimited hay. If I give them more pellets, they get pretty round and eat less hay. I would go by how much hay your bunny is eating — he should eat approximately his body size in fresh hay each day. If he’s eating plenty of hay along with his pellets and salad, and his poop is decent size and not dark, and his weight is good, then your fine with the amount of pellets you’re giving him. If his poops are small and dark then cut back on the pellets a little to encourage him to eat more hay.

so you give 1/16 a cup in morning and 1/16 a cup at night or 1/8 a cup in morning and 1/8 a cup at night..? Sorry, fractions confuse me

I give about 1/16 cup in the AM and again in the PM. I have a 1/8 cup dry measure cup so I just eyeball it. It may end up a little more than 1/16 cup sometimes. Some people give all the pellets at one time, but I just like to give them pellets twice a day so I split it.
