This past Saturday I took one of my rabbits to the local humane society for a bonding date. He did very well with one of the females so I adopted her. Got her home and set up in a pen next to his. They were fine until this morning I realized my male isn’t acting quite right. He sits mostly in one of his litter boxes, and hasn’t shown much interest in his food or water, and tonight he wouldn’t take his craisin, which is a night time ritual for my buns.. After moving her to a different room he did hop around his pen a bit, but still didn’t want his craisin or oats.

Is this normal for a rabbit while bonding? Or even a rabbit that is uncomfortable with another rabbit? I’ll take him in to the vet tomorrow if he still hasn’t eaten, but I’d like to check and see if anyone else has had this problem first.

Oh, and he’s a healthy 1 year old French angora.

        Thank you!

It’s possible he’s ill and this is just a coincidence.

I agree with Sarita he could be sick. What you described sounded just like my rabbit Usagi. I took him to the vet right away he had a UTI. He could also be uncomfortable with the other rabbit around. The best thing to do is take him to the vet if he doesn’t get better. Hopefully he is fine.
            Best of luck!

I would mention it to the humane society. Maybe they would have their vet check him out.

Fergus is doing much better today. He ate most of his pellets and lots of hay, plus took several craisins when offered. I even caught him doing binkies earlier.

I just don’t think he likes this other rabbit being so near him. It just seems too much of a coincidence that he started acting weird the day after her pen was set up in his room, then he got better the day after she was moved out of his room.. They did great at their date, lots of grooming and cuddling, very little chasing or anything..

Where should I go from here? I’m so lost as to what to do now!

What bonding work have you done so far?

As for Fergus (Love the name BTW) i’d still contact a vet and get an opinion, more than likely you’ll need to take Fergus in, but i’d do it as a precaution.

As for bonding, i’ll sit back on that one, i’m not too sure.
