I heard you can tell how old a rabbit is by seeing how many veins it has in it’s ears. Is that true? If not, how can you tell the age? Thanks!

I have not heard that one before. There’s no real way to tell age, since rabbits go from being young to mature to old with very few differences.
Older rabbits are alot calmer but it’s hard to tell meeting that rabbit for the first time.

Vets can make a guess based of whether or not they appear full grown and what their teeth look like. Other problems may give some indication since some things (like arthritis) are more common at certain ages. It isn’t an exact science and they can really only give a ballpark estimate because these things can vary widely between individuals.

I have never heard about veins in the ears. What would be the scientific basis for that? With mammals, veins can become more visible due to the amount of fat, skin color, hormonal changes, or other factors. But the veins are already there. How many veins that are visible really wouldn’t indicate age.

That sounds like maybe a myth-I’ve never heard of that. I know when I adopted Rupert he was an adult and that’s all the vets could tell.
