I’m currently trying to bunny proof my bedroom so Cinna can have more play time outside of the cage, especially once she gets spayed and litter trained. The one problem I’m having is the guinea pig cage I have. It’s a C&C cage on the floor, one grid high. How many grids high do you guys recommend I make it to prevent Cinnabun from jumping inside? Thanks

Most rabbits can jump 3-4 feet so it would have to be 3/3.5-4 grids high. It might be easier to put a roof on the piggies cage than make it tall enough to keep a bunny out.

It depends on how much a jumper Cinna is. My recommendation would be to go 2-3 grids high.

Okay, thank you. I’m not sure how much of a jumper she is, I think it depends on how curious she is.

I’ll have to think about putting a roof on. It’s a large, awkwardly shaped cage and the only way I can clean it is to step inside.

              Thanks for the suggestions!

You could always make a hinged roof using the grids and cable ties. It could then secure it with a bolt snap. I hope that made sense.

Yeah, that makes sense…do you think the grids would be strong enough and not sag across the cage? Imagine a 4×4 with a 1×2 section missing…if that makes sense. It’s almost a 4×4, is what I’m trying to say. I’ve seen people use closet shelving as covers, and I’m considering doing that instead of a grid roof too.

Yeah, with that many grids it would probably sag. That didn’t even occur to me! A dowel or two secured across the length of the grids would prevent that though. Are you talking about the metal shelving?

I had an idea, but I’m not sure it would work. Instead of building a cover on the guinea cage, I was thinking I could build the cage wall up to 3 grids high, and then add grids horizontally away from the cage. This cage height extension would be removable, so I could step inside the cage when needed. That probably didn’t make any sense. My hope would be that this would prevent Cinna from being able to jump in, and it still lets me clean the cage.

Something like this (the lines are grids and the stars are indicating which side the rabbit has access to):
                        __
                        |
                        |
                        | ***

                        Thoughts?

I think I know what you mean. If you make it three grids high, I don’t think it is necessary to use the horizontal grids, though I don’t think it could hurt anything. Let us know how it works out.
