So yesterday, Harley had a small set back. Today, though, he is accepting food and even drinking from the syringe on his own. He is making a mess of himself peeing and has only had a few poops today. He is being very inactive. He has been mostly just hanging out on his bed on the couch. He is not keeping up well with his grooming, so I have been helping him with baby wipes. We tries letting him back in with Bruno, but he just his in the corner. We have her hang with him a couple hours at a time.

I’m really concerned that there has been so little progress. I can’t imagine this syringe feeding is easy on him. Is there any other way to help him stay clean? Oh, he also has easy access to hay and water, but he just picks at the hay. Has anyone else had a bunny recovering from a blockage? Is this slow recovery normal? I’m going to swing by the vets tomorrow.

Bam said it took a month for her’s to recover from stasis

Slow is normal, you just have to persevere, Bam and Pascal both had stasis at the same time, I thought I would never see normal poops again and it would seem he would improve and then go backwards slightly. I finally came home one day about 2.5 weeks after it started and discovered a huge mound of poop in his cage litter tray, prior to that I was monitoring twice daily poops in his play pen litter tray and weighing it for urine content. I was obsessed and Pascal had started to get very wary of me.

It took a month with my Yohio, I had to syringe feed him 3-4 times a day with CC and daily simeticone. If I stopped, he fell back down into lethargy after half a day. He was NOT happy about being syringe-fed, he tried to hide, he bit me and growled and even screamed each time I caught him for feeding-time and I felt so evil, but my vet said it’s an absolute MUST to get food into the system. I gave him a probiotic with each meal because it won’t hurt according to both my vet and Medirabbit.

He’s very well now though. And he became cuddlier than ever once he got back to eating on his own, so he doesn’t hold all that force-feeding against me. His stasis was due to very discreet but obviously quite painful dental issues, once that was fixed he returned to normal in 10 days.

Thanks all! I keep thinking I’m doing something wrong.

I someone’s opinion though – do u think it would be best to keep him mostly alone, so I can monitor poops, or do u think he’d feel better back in his cage with Bruno. BTW, she’s a poop machine, it would be hard to tell who’s is who.

Arrgh, I’m so frustrated! I don’t know if I’m helping him or not. There’s no evidence what we’re doing is helping him except the fact he’s still alive. I wish he could tell me, hey this helps or no. Don’t bother doing that. I’m getting discouraged. One minute I swear the black rabbit will be coming for him, the next he’s drinking water from a bowl and biting me. OMG!!!! I’m going to be more nuts than ever by the time he gets better lol.

Saturday update: this little bunny just wants to give me a heart attack. He acts like the black rabbit is calling his name, then turns around and livens up. Sigh. Well, what may have been part of his blockage came out I think. He left a huge pile of connected poops. Since then he has been making lots of little piles of small poops. He’s been drinking from a bowl and today he even ate a bit of pellet mush off a plate. He also chewed a bit of a toilet paper tube. So hopefully these are solid improvements!
