All three of my house rabbits have sore hocks.. Two just have slight balding on both rear feet, one has an open sore on one of his rear feet. I’m going to clean it and take him to the vet tomorrow. They all are in large xpens on linoleum, with carpet covering half the floor so they’re not standing on hard floor all the time.

The strange thing is, none of my caged fiber rabbits have them. They’re in wire bottom cages, but all of them have perfectly fine feet. Which is weird, i was always told the wire floors would do that to them easier. Same breed too, French angora.

What do you think is causing the penned buns to have sore hocks?

The only thing I can think of is that the caged “fiber rabbits” hair on their feet is longer, thus keeping their feet from getting sore hocks or hiding it. Do you keep the fur on your indoor bunnies’ feet shorter?

That is so weird that they ALL have it. Good question Moxie.

I don’t keep the fur any shorter on the house bunnies feet. They’re also fiber bunnies, so their fur and wool is kept the same as those in cages. I’m very confused by the situation and not sure what to change.. I’ve moved Fergus, the worst one, into the living room so he’s on plush carpet, but I can’t really keep them all in the living room since they’re not bonded and it’s not a large room, not to mention one is a carpet chewer.

That is weird. My bun is a french angora too, but I’ve never had any problems with sore hocks with her.

Could be a weight issue. If they are too heavy, the pressure could cause sore hocks. I’d also recommend this video.
