        Hi,

When my rabbits have playtime, they have access to their whole room and each of their cages. Each cage has 1 litter box. When Hagrid is in his cage, he uses the litter box perfectly fine. However, when he pees in Dayglow’s litter box, his butt sticks out over the edge, if that makes sense. He is sitting in the litter box, but when he pees, it lands on the floor. It isn’t too small as both bunnies have the exact same litter box. Today we tried removing Dayglow’s litter box so Hagrid would go in his own, but he peed on the floor where the litter box was. Do you know why he is doing this, and if I can stop it?

          Sounds like territorial marking.

Is there a reason they have access to each others’ cages? What I mean is, it doesn’t sound like they are bonded and yet they are allowed to play together. Am I getting that right? That’s how I was interpreting your post.

I should have clarified: The “playtime” is actually their bonding time. Hagrid’s cage is inside Dayglow’s bunny room, but Dayglow still has a cage as a “home base.” Hagrid is let out of his cage during their bonding time and they both have access to the whole room and each other’s cages.

Have they done any bonding in neutral territory? You could have a “neutral” (= brand new) litter box and see if that helps.

Yes, they have done a lot of bonding in neutral territory. I will see about getting a neutral litter box.

You can also be really mean and swap litter boxes.

Okay, it’s been a few days with the swapped boxes and it seems like Hagrid has stopped doing it. Thanks for all your help!
