So I bought this organic spring mix. On the label it says it consists of Baby Lettuce, Baby Greens & Radicchio. Well I just flipped over the container and it says it contains all these baby lettuces and greens I’ve never even heard of! Like Green Tango Lettuce, Red Oak Lettuce, Green Oak Lettuce, Lolla Rose Lettuce. Also Baby greens like Tatsoi, Mizuna, red Chard, green Chard, Red and Green mustard, Frisee and Arugula.

Should I even risk giving her a little? Are any of those bad for her to eat? Thanks in advance!

Moxie — I think I’ve bought that same mix before! I’ve actually bought frisee lettuce and arugula by themselves too. I don’t know exactly what tatsoi and mizuna are, but if they looked fresh and not bruised, Kieko ate them. I think they are all fine.

The one I haven’t figured out yet is a package of lettuce I’ve seen called mache roses.

Okay, thanks! I just saw on the fruits and veggie list it said red and green leaf or romaine lettuce. and then on the package it said all this weird stuff like Red oak lettuce. I definitely wouldn’t want to risk giving her anything dangerous. I’ll just give her a little bit tonight and watch her. I’be given her mixes like those before, but never really studied the ingredients. ?

The one to watch for is iceberg, and its not that iceberg is really bad like poisonous or anything, it just has no nutritional value and has such a high water content that it can upset some tummies. Chard is a little high in calcium but fine as part of a “balanced” salad. Frisee and arugula are both ok daily, and I believe mustard greens are one of the few “greens” that is not high in calcium (hope that’s the one).

My girls tend to have minor issues with too much calcium so I’m experimenting with some of the greens that are higher in calcium but gave diuretic properties like parsley and dandelion (got this info from BB’s Jack’s diet/story in the BB diet/alternative diet section).

Oak leaf lettuce is perfectly fine.

All of them are fine, Tatsoi is like a very small bokchoy and mizuna is similar to rocket.
