Bunny is just over a year old and I have had her since she was 6 months old. She is a house bunny with free reign of my living room. She has never been a really cuddly bunny but happy to be stroked, sit on the sofa next to me etc.

Over the last 2 weeks she has started to misbehave when I am out of the room/house. It’s all safe for her but she has started jumping up on sides, knocking things off, chewing etc. She never did this before. I have started putting her in her cage overnight so she doesnt’t hurt herself. Over the last couple of days she has started nipping me. I never pick her up but she usually jumps on me sits on my lap and then off again onto the sofa. She has now started nipping my leg when on my lap or my ankles when she is on the floor and I am sat on the sofa.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? There are no changes to her set up (other than leaving her in her cage overnight, but she doesnt seem to mind that) and she has always been pretty content with the set up I have for her.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated

        Debz xx

I actually read the forum after I posted last night… I know, the wrong way round, sorry!

Anyway, no she isn’t spayed but I realise now that it is not helping so she is booked in to have it done! Hoepfully that will help!

            Thanks!

I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t hormonal. If she isn’t spayed, then the nipping could very likely be hormone-related. Sounds like you’re planning to have her done, so yeah see what happens. If it’s still a problem, then we can help you figure out a solution. But she should definitely be spayed anyway, so we’ll just see if it helps first.

Does she nip bare skin? Bunnies will sometimes try to nibble clothing not realizing there is skin beneath.

Does the nipping seem “vicious”, like she’s lunging for you, or more of a nibble? Some buns like to bite fabric, or explore the area with their mouths. Just another perspective of what could be happening…

In any case, spaying is important for females bc of the high incidence of reproductive cancer, so this is good to have done. Any behavioral improvements are just icing on the cake…

From my experience, our bunny will nibble skin while licking. Some sort of affection? I’ve noticed if I lay on the ground, she’ll lick my face, and then move around to my ear. She’ll start licking my ear then and nibble on it.
