Okay so, On Christmas my mom got me a new rabbit hutch because my bunny Butterscotch had a tiny plastic cage when we first got her in October… ever since we got it, ALL SHE HAS BEEN DOING WAS CHEWING THE CAGE… i’m afraid we are not going to have a hutch anymore… and it has a second floor and all that she does on that floor is go to the bathroom, I have a litter box on the base floor, she was using it at first but now she ONLY goes to the bathroom on the second floor… Its starting to drip down to the base floor and is ruining the wood… Supposedly its rot resistant… I’ve put a litter box on the second floor too, But there is no way to secure it because there is no grate so all she does is flip it over… PLEASE HELP… D: maybe like a bitter spray to spray on the wood… Or something to stop her from urinating and defecating only on the second floor? Thanks in advance…

Well, until someone smarter gets on…
Rabbits LOOOOOVE to chew new wood. You could certainly try spraying something…even a cheap body spray…on the wood, though I’d not do it unless bunny can get away while it airs out. Maybe spray a cloth with it in a separate room them wipe it on the wood? It can take a long time for the smell in a closed up room to dissipate. (I know because been there, done that and regretted it for how long it smelled). BUT I think it made a big difference,
Definitely offer bunny something else to chew…Kleenex box, chunks of pine hanging or mounted somewhere (though my guy won’t touch them because he is ALLOWED to so it’s not so fun). Put hay IN a Kleenex box…
As far as the bad litter habits, well, sounds like you did the right thing to add a litter box in that place. It sounds archaic, but I simply roll up duct tape and tape things down. Others use extra strong Velcro. It’s a BLAST to tip things over when you’re a rabbit! And put hay in the litter boxes to encourage visiting them. Maybe some old towels or something in the meantime to help contain it to the same level?

Baldwinsville? I remember when I was a kid, they were the tough ones to beat at the Gorham pageant of bands. Didn’t they just go to the Macy’s Chrostmas parade? I Just moved South from Victor (near Canandaigua) back in Aug. I don’t miss winter

Try a high walled cat litter box filled with wood shavings and hay on the second floor. We had to get one for one of our rabbiits with a similar problem.

As Megabunny said, rabbits love to chew wood, and their cages are no exception. They tend to like to remodel, and even with toys, they may still do this. She will become bored of the cage and move on, only occasionally chewing it. To help with this offer up new toys, like willow toys since she likes wood. I would buy a few different ones and rotate them out, offering a few at a time, to keep things new and interesting. Also make sure she is getting enough time outside of her cage if she is put up when you are gone. Bunnies need about 5 hours of play time each day.

As far as the tipping of the box goes, I am glad you put another one upstairs for her. I also agree with Megabunny, try sticking it down with velcro to keep it from going anywhere. Giving her more toys and play time can help with this too.

Sometimes though bunnies are convinced that they have the right idea and that you don’t, leading them to continue the behavior you want to stop. With time and patience though this phase should pass as they grow bored of their antics and move on to other things. Good luck!

Good point R and M. Bunny probably will move on soon. When we built a hutch for our rabbits we kept the opening really small because I said they would certainly chew it and make it wider. Nope. Barely touched it. Rabbits know when they’re allowed to chew something…the. It’s no fun!
