So my boyfriend is currently taking care of my rabbit because I’m across the country on break. I’ll be back in two days. But yesterday he noticed some clear jelly like substance around and under my bunny’s food bowl (she likes to pee here). I’ve asked him to check today if there is more and he said there was a little more today in the same spot. I will try and get a picture later.

Does anyone know what this is and if it is normal or does it warrant a vet visit? She is about 6 months old now and I plan on getting her spayed once I get back.

I’m told she is eating and acting normal but I’m still worried about the weird jelly.

I’m thinking she might’ve peed it out since she often pees in that area.

        thanks

She probably needs more fiber in her diet – does she eat alot of grass hay?

            What is the jelly tho?
I’ve told my bf to hand feed her hay whenever he can but she really prefers alfalfa hay. I give her both timothy and alfalfa but I’m pretty sure she eats mostly the alfalfa leafy parts.

They produce mucus in their intestines. It lubricates things and they also coat their cecals with mucus (which helps ensure they make it through their stomach when eaten).

I think Sarita is on to something, it could very well be a dietary issue. What is the rest of her diet like? How much does she get of pellets and veggies? You said she won’t eat timothy, what about another grass hay like oat or orchard?

Second the orchard grass. Timothy gets boring quick. I think orchard grass is generally more tasty and interesting than Timothy, less so than alfalfa but definitely healthier than alfalfa.

I’ve never tried other kinds of hay besides alfalfa and Timothy. I guess I’ll do that once I get back. She’s getting unlimited pellets and gets a leaf of romaine lettuce or kale.
So you guys don’t think I need to Rush to the vet?

I rush to the vet for everything (!), but it does sound like it’s excess mucous (maybe excess cecals that are being eaten too), maybe a little too rich of a diet because of not enough hay fiber. My bunnies do love their orchard hay; I try to give them a mix of orchard and timothy for variety.

It sounds like mucous from diet. I would stop the unlimited pellets (by slowly decreasing them-no sudden changes) and increase hay.

alrighty I’ll start decreasing pellets. I bought some orchard grass hay and now have her eating that, timothy, and alfalfa hay.

How much pellets should I give her in the end? Last time I went to the vet she was almost 2 pounds but she’s grown a bit since then so I wanna say she’s 2.5?

You said she’s 6 months? If she’s a small breed (2.5lbs is small!), then she is probably done growing. She will just fill out a little more between now and when she’s a year old. You can start rationing her now. She should be getting 1/8 cup of pellets per day (or less if you’re doing a lot of veggies).
