I’m considering spending a premium to get a continental giant rabbit with darius bloodline. Darius made it in the Guinness Book of Record (after beating his mom). If I get a 3rd or 4th generation rabbit in that bloodline would I be guaranteed a huge rabbit? Or is there no difference to buying any continental rabbit?

There are no guarantees where genetics are concerned. Probability would likely be in your favor, I would think. There is always the chance of getting an smaller individual though. Look at people. There will be two short parents and they could have a very tall kid. Or there can be two tall parents with a short kid.

I would think you’d end up with a pretty huge rabbit! Lol! Maybe not world record status… But definitely big! There’s no guarantee that a rabbit will be X number of pounds full grown, but should be a giant for sure!

I don’t plan on feeding the crap Darius eats (carrots, cabbages, rabbit mix and almost no hay). Just need a rabbit with good genes and feeding unlimited pellets and alfalfa hay. My rabbit still has several months to possibly grow but her weight seems to not increase anymore now. For a British Giant, I’m slightly disappointed she’s not big as I wanted. I’ve always wanted a huge huge rabbit, not just any large breed rabbit. I call it pride in ownership of a mega huge bunny.

I’m not certain what makes “good genes” in rabbits or anyone else for that matter…however I suspect that this Darius rabbit’s size has quite a bit to do with his crappy diet…

Also a female would normally be smaller in size than I male I would imagine.

Actually, in the Giant Chinchilla world, the males are smaller. I got mine, knowing he would be on the small side, and he’s plenty big enough for me! I no longer think I want anything bigger. But do you already have one and you’re considering getting another? I should think the breeder (like mine) would know if the baby was likely to be smaller than average. I, too, suspect Darius’ size is from his diet.

Depends who the mom and dad are-I’d take a good look at both of them. You’ll end up with something like mom or dad most likely. 4 generations is quite a ways back.

I only ask that we get to see as many pictures of your giant bunny growing up as possible haha -omg I love big bunnies!
