This is pry a silly question to ask, but how do you tell if a bun is OK with you petting them? For instance, tonight while giving Potus a treat, I reached over and scratched behind his ears. he immediately dropped his chin to the floor, feet poked out and butt in the air. After I stopped petting him, he stayed that way for a few seconds. On the other hand, I reache down to pet Backers (the new baby bun) and he flattened out on his belly and was a bit flinchy. I mean, obviously if they see your hand and hop away, they do want it. Just curious

If they don’t hop away then I take that to mean it’s ok to pet them. Chin to the floor for pets is a submissive posture, and feet sprawled out is relaxed, so I guess Potus’ body language would say “I acknowledge that you are the boss so let me get comfy while you pet/groom me!”. Backers sounds like “Ahhh”. I’m picturing my bunnies from your description, and if I have the right position, Backers is doing Moshi’s “mosh” which can lead to the eyes closing and the nose stop twitching!

Sounds like you should post bunny videos so we can see exactly! (Was that a sneaky way to try to get some bunny videos or what?!?!?)

OOOO Yes. We definitely should view this behavior to be sure. Bring on the videos!

You mentioned Backers is a bit “flinchy”- my Liam is like that sometimes, I think because he’s ticklish. (The vet actually used that work haha) He’s more likely to shy away a bit when I go near his sides and belly, but sometimes -not always- he flinches when I pet near the base of his ears and by his neck, too. I think if they settle down, and especially if they stay still even after you stop petting them, they like the pets
