I understand that weather conditions and soil type can cause differences in hay, but it seems like hay grown in the western states smells so much cleaner and fresher than hay from eastern states. Its like hay grown in the east almost has a sickening sweet smell like wet grass clippings and hay from western states smells less sweet but somehow super fresh. Oxbow hay seems to fall somewhere in between based on bags I’ve bought at pet stores. Is it just me or does anyone else notice a difference?

I’ve never ordered hay from the east but I order from KMS which is based in Washington state and their hay smells really fresh. I’m sure it’s not just you who noticed the smell change. It’s probably because the hay is grown in different climates and the west most likely has better hay growing conditions?
