        Hello everyone,

BunBun, Willow and I are newbies here. I got Willow my girl bun from the local shelter on December 4 after she was spayed and tattooed that morning. They did a poor job tattooing as she has a narrow and small ears, they tattoos the 4 numbers so closely, it’s barely readable. Last week when we went for her first vet visit, I noticed her tattoo was red around the edges. The vet said we’ll just keep an eye on it. Tonight, I noticed the entire tattoo is peeling off (halfway) leaving a ‘cut wound’ behind with a little dried blood. The edges appear raw and a little swollen. It doesn’t look infected yet… I’ve googled for remedies to trat cut wounds on rabbits but got some mixed information

Willow is eating (she doesn’t drink much) and behaving normal, grooming BunBun, digging/destroying cardboard boxes, etc. I also noticed she tends to keep her right ear (tattoed) lower than her left ear.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Is it safe to clean it with diluted betadine, apply neosporin & monitor or should I go to the vet?

I’ve attached a photo, sorry it’s not the best photo as she is still getting used to being touched/pet.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

        Thanks so much!

I would just call the vet about it. I used to help at a rescue that tattooed the ears after spay/neuter but I honestly cannot remember the heal time. Or even call the rescue you adopter her from and ask them about it. I don’t think it would harm to put some medication on it. Just make sure the neosporin is the one WITHOUT the pain killer in it. Just use the original one. They have one for children too but honestly I don’t know how that differs from the original.

Thank you, Sarita. I’ll get some neosporin original and call the vet
