Our basement is basically a big, empty, 30 foot by 10 foot rectangle. There are few things (dresser, end table) up against the wall and a treadmill on one end. Prime binky-ing real estate, right?

So tonight I brought Pumpkin down to play while I walked on the treadmill. She did a lot of exploring, but no bunny 500’s or binkying yet. But I have two questions:

        1) Those of you who have their bunnies in one room and a “play” area in another: How do you get your bunny from point A to point B? I have to bring Pumpkin down to the basement in her travel carrier. While it’s easy to get her in (a few pellets does the trick) I think it disorients her and freaks her out. I’m hoping she gets used to it.

        2) Does anyone else have a treadmill or loud machine they use? The treadmill really, really scares her. She basically hid the whole time it was on. I made Jared come down to play with her, pet her, and coax her out from under the dresser so she could get used to it and realize it wouldn’t hurt her. When it was off, she explored it and hopped on it, etc. Do you think I might be stressing her out by bringing her downstairs? I just thought it would be a great opportunity for her to stretch her legs while I work out before work in the mornings (before she gets closed in for 9 hours…)

        Thoughts and suggestions are welcome!

          Hi LLH.
In “Moxie’s” room we have big windows. I always keep one or two of the windows open to keep the room cool. Well we have wood right under the windows, and we have been using 1-2 chainsaws on them regularly. So it’s LOUD. Moxie used to be terrified of the noise, and would hide whenever she heard it. But slowly she learned that it wasn’t going to hurt her and got used to it. Hope that helped some. Maybe she just needs to be around it a little more on one of it’s quieter settings, and slowly get used to it. It’s a new place, with this loud scary thing that you are walking/running on. So I can definately see how she could be nervous.

If Moxie can handle a chainsaw I feel like Pumpkin can handle a treadmill! We’ll keep testing it out. I’d love to see her go crazy down there!

Gus doesn’t mind the treadmill. I think they’re quiet enough she should get used to it. Do you have a litter box there for her?

We must be very selfish people in our house, lol! From the day Henry came home we just went about our business and I never gave the noise level a second thought (I have been known to play my 80’s music a bit (very) loudly – GASP!). At first he ran from the room, but he eventually got used to it (or I made him deaf – eeek!). Even when the dog’s bark (loudly) right next to him, he doesn’t flinch – if anything he brings his ears to attention (forward) as if he knows something is going on. Yep, Henry adjusted just fine…..
I’m sure Pumpkin will too when she gets used to it and her surrounding’s. I think it’s a great idea to have her with you while your down there exercising. A lot of people (me – ooop’s!) wouldn’t bother to do that – naughty me. But that’s one advantage of free roam – you don’t have to. As it is, Henry will and does follow us from room to room. If he doesn’t like something (my music – DOH!) he LEAVES!

                Dam rude bunny!

Stomps to music here just got some rabbit told he didn’t have big black boots, so I didn’t have to listen to his sound. He just stomped more. Folk metal, death metal, heavy metal (he really likes Sabaton), whatever metal Rammstein is – that’s fine. Post-industrial however is not approved of. Deal with it bunny, I like NIN/HDTA so it gets played.

MegaBunny–yes I did bring down a litter box. I took the one out of our bedroom which is funny b/c the other day she ran into our bedroom and left about ten tiny presents right where the box should have been! haha. I have also been giving her a little piece of papaya when we go down hoping that she starts correlating the papaya with good feelings.

If I don’t bring her down with me I feel bad b/c I have to leave her in her condo (still don’t trust her not to pee on the couch, but its getting better, she only seems to do it when she’s mad–like if I won’t share my apple) until I’m done. Since she’s already in her condo 16 hours a day, I like her being able to join me. Get our exercise together!

Pumpkin doesn’t seem to mind our 80’s jam sessions (Bon Jovi station on pandora is amazing!) so maybe she will get used to it!!

My bun got used to the sound of the treadmill after a while. And as for carrying them I carry my bun everyday to and from his cage to play area in a bunny burrito. He doesn’t like it much but he allows it, he chews on the blanket I burrito him in sometimes but he likes it better than the carrier. I think the swaying of the carrier disoriented him and in my arms, even though he doesn’t like to be man handled, is more comforting still

It took a little while and I still get a thump and bunny butt. Mainly when we are going from okay own to cage. When we move he will have a room to himself until then he has to deal with it lol

I’m used to my big lug just being blopped on my shoulder and being toted around until he starts biting my clothes to say he’s had enough. Bon Jovi on Pandora. I’ll have to try that!
