Atlas has passed away. He was 6, I didn’t expect it so soon, I really thought we had some more more time together. But this morning when I went to bring him his veggies he was laying in his bed still and not at the door waiting for me. He was still alive when I got there, I pet him and he felt so cold, his breathing and heartbeat slow. He tried to get up and couldn’t so I picked him up. He felt so tense but his body loosened as I held him, then he spasmed and was gone. He had a bad heart, grade 3 heart murmur so I think his heart finally gave out from working so hard. Still he was fine last night, grooming the dog, cuddling with me as we watched some TV, he even did some binkies which had become rare lately. I just wish I was able to go back to last night, I would have focused more on him, grooming him instead of watching TV and just giving the occasional pet. I feel like I lost a part of my heart.

I’m so sorry for your loss. He had 6 good years, and apparently enjoyed himself completely on his last night. My heart goes out to you.

I’m extremely sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is always so painful, I don’t even think there is anything I can say to help lessen some of your pain. Just know that he was happy on his last night with you all. Just remembered you loved Atlas very much and he loved you in return. Again, I’m SOO sorry for your loss.

Thank you guys, it really helps knowing people care. I haven’t gone into the room his cage is in yet. I am actually having my boyfriend take apart his cage for me, I don’t think I could do it without balling. I’m glad our last night was snuggle filled and he got to groom his dog, the dog is not a fan of grooming so only occasional put up with it. Atlas loved to groom things.

Glad your boyfriend is taking care of the cage for you. Our dog passed away this summer and hubby putting all of her things away while I was out was a big help. It’s ok to cry and to grieve the loss of your boy, after all, he was part of your family and you loved him.

I am so sorry for your loss. He sounds like he was loved a lot and it is wonderful he had an enjoyable last night with his family. It is hard enough to lose a bunny, but when they go so unexpectedly it is extra tough. Sending tons of hugs and love to you guys. (((Binky free darling Atlas)))
