        Hi,

This week we adopted a 6m old dwarf lop doe from P@H that was excess stock but her since we got her home, she’s been showing symptoms of something not being well.

We brought her home on 12th, got her settled in and everything seemed okay. Come the morning of the 13th, I wake up at the usual time to feed our other bunbun (who is incidentally fine, touch wood) to find Watson sneezing occasionally and her caecotrophs from the night uneaten. Worried at this point we called P@H for advice and they said to bring her in to see the vet.

We went straight in to be told it’s likely she has pasteurella and she was given a shot of Baytril and we were given an oral solution to take home and give her 0.8ml twice daily.  Now I’ve done three doses thus far and her sneezing is getting worse and she’s started to scratch at her ears and flopping and rolling on the floor and I’m worried she might have an ear infection.

She’s eating plenty of hay and pellets but again last night she left her caecotrophs.

Is anyone able to advise how long before the Baytril should kick in and some times it looks as though she’s struggling to get back up after flopping. The vet said to come back for a checkup in a fortnight but I’m just so worried about her, is it worth taking her back in sooner?

        Any advise would be appreciated.

        TIA

        Oliver

Hi Oliver, I was hoping one of the others would chime in as I really don’t have much experience with these infections. I know some of the others have said on other posts that it can take a week to start showing any positive effect. However if you think there is decline in her condition it would be an idea to phone and check in with the vet in case the medication needs to be reviewed or adjusted.

My idea would be that she has some sort of ear infection that is causing a minor head tilt (a.k.a. the rolling). Don’t know what that would have to do with the sneezing though. Of course this is just a guess.
What I would do is get a second opinion from a vet besides the one at Pets at Home. A lot of vets at pet stores aren’t very experienced especially in small animals.
Sending tons of hugs and vibes to you both.
