        Hello everyone,

I’m proud to have a 10 week old Holland Lop. I just obtained him 2 weeks ago from the breeder. I noticed white urine in his tray at times. I’m trying to potty train him and he does urine different places (possible due to hormones).

        Some facts:

I’m feeding him same food from breeder which is Purina rabbit chow, Timothy hay, and 32oz water bottle. I’m not feeding veggies or fruits yet. His diet seems great to me. He poops alot and drinks water. He is a very happy bunny who runs and jumps, and I play with him hours a day.

        Please help:

Can anyone please let me know what you think

        1) white urine is okay at times (as research shows)

        2) Could be sludge and what I should do.

        thanks

        Steven

It’s normal… Sludge is quite thick and sticky. The white residue is excess calcium that they express in their urine. Bunny pee comes in a wide variety of colours and can alter with their diet. I’m not acquainted with the Purina, many members here prefer the Oxbow. You mainly want to avoid anything with seeds and treats through it like the Bunny Muesli mixes etc.
Have you some pics of your bunny ?

Is it the Purina Rabbit Chow Complete (green bag)? It’s fine for a young bunny, but you will want to switch to a timothy-based pellet when he’s 6 months old or so.

I agree with Roberta, definitely calcium. Usually it’s fine. That is how bunny’s get rid of excess calcium. I would only worry if it starts looking sludgy.
