Delilah is a 9-10 week old Flemish giant. Shes growing like a week. We have the largest cage we could find for her, buts its already pretty tight quarters by the time her litter box is added. She has free access to house, so she isn’t caged up, but she does like to go in there for her potty, to eat, just get away. I was wondering if something like a cute wooden dog house would be appropriate to use as this hide away and eliminate the wire caging all together. Has anyone tried this?

I would say if she has free roam of the house 24/7, the cage is probably unnecessary since you never have to close her in. If you have close her in ever, it might be a good idea to keep the cage so it doesn’t freak her out when she has to be put away. But otherwise, I don’t see why a big hidey house wouldn’t work. I’ve seen some posts lately though, that rabbits like two exits; so with only one entrance, she might not want to go into the dog house. Maybe you could get something and add another exit to it?

Tulley has a condo but also has free range when myself or OJ is at home. We have one of those nice dog cages for the dog, but Tulley likes to hid in there too. If you are going to give him free range , he should still have his own space but those nice dog cages are hard to clean.

I would suggest getting an exercise pen. She’s still very young and there may be times when you will need to have her out from underfoot. Get the tallest one you can. I got a 42″ tall one and my flemish jumped it around 12 weeks old, and I think stunned herself for a few moments after the hard landing, we covered the top after that. Now she is almost a year old, but still a bit too mischievous to be free roam, plus I have other rabbits and they aren’t bonded, so can’t be completely free-roam anyway. BUT.. your bun is gonna start being a terror around 5-6 months old with hormones starting to surge, you are totally going to want to have a place to put her when she’s terrorizing the house.
