So I put a metal basket in the pen because they are always standing on and peeing on and pooping on their hay, and I try to put it in feeders but it gets all over them (I have some new feeders coming) … and Angie-Hoppra’s like “Yay, we don’t have to eat hay we peed on!!” and Frankie’s like “Woohoo! I can sit on this hay in the basket and eat it!!” and Angie’s like “You are why we can’t have nice things.”

So far the one that works best (in that Frankie can’t sit in it or knock it off the side of the pen, lol), is one of those mesh-metal pasta strainers with the foldable-handles? I hang it using a clip-hook to the top of the cage, and they pull the hay from it. They get covered in hay, but at least it’s clean hay!

My dad is very handy with wood. He made Frodo Baggins a hay feeder for me so I could give him more hay and have it last. Worked great until my 3.5 pound bun figured he could fit right into the opening and he kept hanging out in there and urinating. To fix this I took one of the doors off his cage and used it as a door to the hay box. Now he just pulls/digs his hay and he can’t pee on it.

Though to be fair most of the mess comes from the cats digging the fresh hay OUT of the box. Frodo has expertly trained his henchmen.
