Bunnies say a lot through their ears!! Mad…about to attack…temperature..crazy

Is it just my buns..or does anyone else tell if their baby is to warm or too cold by their ears?

Usually, i keep their at an even temperature. Not to cold..not hot.

But if I’m petting them and i notice their ears are hotter then usual then I’ll get a little cold water on my hands and fluff up the tops of their ears near their head and down their nose so they can cool off. I have tried the frozen water bottle trick but they just kick that around and forget about it lol

how warm do you keep it at your place? I like it nice at toasty in my room, but I’m afraid that it gets too warm sometimes. And I hate fluctuating the temperature because I feel like it messes fuji up sometimes.

Well if you are talking about their core temperature their ears won’t tell that. Rabbit do regulate their body temperature through their ears but it won’t tell you if they have a fever or not.

                  Yes! Lol
They are free range in my room and i have like a bunny arena with so many toy, they play to hard and end up flopping on the floor exhausted!
Plus my room has carpeted walls (i have no idea what the previous owner was thinking) but its naturally hot in there so I try to make sure they dont over heat while im at work!

carpeted walls. that is an interesting concept. I have the opposite problem as you. My room is not very well insulated so I keep the heat on so it won’t freeze in here. But as far as toys go. What do you have for your rabbit? I made a couple of hiding holes made out of cardboard boxes and some homemade toilet paper roll toys but I think she got bored with them. I need some more ideas.

Bunnies regulate body temperature with their ears. The communicate with other rabbits with their ears. Pressed together hard means frightened, flat on head means relaxed and perked up means excited or alert.
84 F is the maximum rabbits should take. They can tolerate very low temperatures but not heat. Have you tried a fan set on low to keep air circulating?

emm_renn one toys my buns like is: you take a brown paper lunch bag cut of the bottom, then cut up the bag so its not connected all the way around. then you cut it into three strips (cutting the long way)then tying three ends together. then you take a paper towel roll and cut it so you get little rings. then start braiding the strips and randomly put a ring on. when you reach the end just tie it off. when its done it should look like a paper braaid with cardboard rings sticking out of it. i hope that made sense! good luck!

Hmm well I work at a location where we get shipments daily. So i just take those different size cardboard boxes and build little tunnels and houses, they go to town with tearing them up and hoping on them! When they start to get less sturdy and unable to hold my large sized rabbits I swap them out..or maybe try something new. I also have a few cat tunnels i bought at Petsmart and bunch baby keys for them to throw around and well as wooden balls to push.
They live in my room, or I guess you could say i live in there room! lol

Haha! Sorry, I’m really bad at explaining things like that!! Maybe when I figure out how to upload pics from an iPad I could do a tutorial or something!

I usually go by ear temp too. Binkin’s ears get warm at 75-80, and we live in an old house so the temp fluctuates a lot depending on the temp outside. Today, it wasn’t cold at all, so I had to turn the heat down to 65, otherwise her ears feel warm and all she wants to do is lay in her litterbed (what we call the litterbox that she’s decided is the bed)
