When I’m at home my household consists of my rabbit Philomena, my dog Dexter, and my cat Bootsie. Dexter and Bootsie get along just fine. Dexter and Philomena get along just fine. This is what is odd though… Philomena loves following Bootsie, and Bootsie doesn’t care for Philomena.

This is how their relationship went. Philomena was terrified of Bootsie at first when she was small and Bootsie stalked Philomena so we were always very careful when we had her out. One day Philomena was safe in her cage and Bootsie was trying to stalk her. Dexter saw this and chased Bootsie off to protect the bunny. He still gets very nervous when Bootsie gets too close to Philomena and will whine at me to get Bootsie away. As Philomena got bigger I let Bootsie hang around a bit more while Philomena was playing (closely supervised by both me and the dog). Philomena would sneak up on Bootsie and sniff her tail, when Bootsie noticed she would paw at Philomena and Philomena would hop away and Bootsie would go back to what she was doing. Then not 2 minutes later Philomena would go right back to her. Then I left for school. I come back with the rabbit and Philomena is playing in her ex-pen, Bootsie comes over and starts to sniff. Philomena then boxes her and Boots runs away. Now, recently, Philomena will be out playing and Bootsie will come down and watch or will walk across the room. Well, Philomena will eagerly follow Bootsie around. Bootsie who wants nothing to do with her nearly runs out of the room with Philomena watching her with a great interest as she walks away.

I don’t understand what my bun’s fascination is with this cat. Dexter lays around in Philomenas playroom and nothing. She does not care about him one way or the other. She’s not afraid of him nor is she interested in him. It’s just the cat and I can’t understand why.

Some cats are kind of crazy. One of mine runs away from the bunnies as if they will kill her. The other cat is friendly with everyone–people, rabbits, the occasional possum, etc.
It is probably the cat’s personality.

The cat knows bad things happen when she touches the strange furry prey animal. This is very funny hahaha. My cats are scared of my bunnies too. My cats will battle other cats, kill mice and rats, and even chase away our neighbor’s pug dogs. But they are terrified of the bunnies. Maybe they are award of the big teeth and claws a bunny has.
