Just got back from the vets. Pipi hasn’t been eating and was very subdued since yesterday. I started her on gas drops yesterday and a dose of metacam (I am in rescue and have the supplies, normally don’t do it without speaking to your vet first.)
Pipi has a small spur but Dr Anthony does not think it is the cause. She does have a lot of gas though. I was syringing water but have stopped since she was drinking on her own this morning. Pipi has had baytril and metomide injections and has oral enrotril for the next 7 days. I am to keep up the gas drops for afew days and also regilar feeds of cc ( which Pipi is just thrilled about). Pipi was moving about quite a bit in her carrier on the way home and after an unpleasant meal of 10ml of cc is no lounging with her mum and dad (Pepper and Piglet) and enjoying a groom from mum. Did not need the expense, I could have spayed 3 of the last 4 girls for what it has cost for Pascal and Pipi but what else can you do. Guess the car re o airs will have to wait.

Sounds like you have a good rabbit vet who knows what to do. Good thing you caught this in time with treatment she should be fine. Rabbits are not low maintenance are they?

Definitely not. I always want to slap people who think they make a good “no maintenance” starter pet.

I don’t know how you do it Roberta??? And I understand completely! Having 4 dog’s only a few years apart….. I won’t start!
For all the excuses I give for not wanting a second bunny, health concerns and vet bills still rank as number 1! Knowing what I spend on one dog will cost (LOT’S) more just cause Henry is a bunny. Just look how much it cost me to have him neutered and vaccinated??? Good grief!

                Starter pet? WTH???

I’m sorry your having to go through this again Roberta – (((((PIPI))))) wishing you both a ‘speedy’ recovery.

Oh Roberta, not another one! Poor Pipi and poor you! Hopefully this will resolve itself quickly.
I’ve given up on worrying about the cost. The money for the vet bills from this summer is my Christmas present this year. My small retirement/emergency cushion is now the bunny fund — who needs to retire anyway! Ahem….

You know, I don’t mind the vet bill when you walk away with a diagnoses and a treatment plan. What I can’t stand is paying a crap load of money and still coming home with an untreated pet on the ‘chance’ this may work??? Only to have to return to investigate another possibility (this happened with Frank going lame – over $1000 and Sam’s burst eardrum that took it to burst before it was diagnosed!). Still mortified at BOTH!

You and your bun’s are so lucky Roberta to be dealing with someone who knows there stuff! At least you have confidence that you will get through this. I have every confidence in you!

Already seems to be improvement. Huge increase in activity, nomming some hay, great big drink of water and I think she is trying to fortify the poop fortress she has built next to Nomnoms play pen.

Poop fortresses are always a good sign.

Great to hear she’s alreadyu doing better, didn’t see this until now. They do all they can to get us worried, these bunnies.

Hurray, Roberta! Thank you for taking care of her so well

Ditto-ing everyone else. Bunnies are not low maintenance at all! I think I need to write articles about this in my local media so rabbit owners can be more knowledgeable

                              Send my hugs to Pipi!

Eating hay and greens last night and quite mobile… Pipi was much more restrained this morning and only nibbled on one craisin but I am hoping she was just annoyed with me about the anti biotics. I wish I didn’t have to come to work as I loathe leaving them alone until I am positive they are heading in the right direction. The weather is foul here today, very loud thunder storms circling the city and the temps got really high and muggy before they hit… I hope my babies are all blissfully napping and not getting stressed out.
