It started today at 7AM when I woke up and checked her up and Chito usually came to greet me by the doors of her enclosure, but this morning she was hunched over at the very back of the area, eyes bulging out and her ears were so, very cold it scared me. But I’ve read that ear temp doesnt always mirror the core temp so I tried to rub her ears a little to warm her up, then I took a pellet and offered it to her–she wouldn’t touch it and my heart dropped to my feet. Then I offered her a piece of apple and she ate it, although not that enthusiastic. My worries lessened a bit.

I let her out in the garden/porch as usual, and she wasn’t that keen of moving. She did several hops, then sat down, and another hop and sat down and god my tummy started to flip over and over again, I was so worried. I tried some parsley (rejected), her favourite lettuce (rejected, but then she changes her mind), and some bok choy. I suspected it was gas because she pooped a little bit (I think it’s around 15 pellets) on the garden patch, so it’s not stasis…I hope.

Me and my mum took turns massaging her tummy and offering her pellets and hay and whatever she might nibble on. She (my mum, not Chito) then called her vet friend and she told her to administer a herb mix called Antangin Jr. (it’s basically a herbal medicine for cold and motion sickness and gas. Ingredients: zingiberis rhizoma, phyllanthi herba, blumeae folia, menthae folia, myristicae semen, curcumae rhizoma, echinacea, honey) mixed with her drinking water, a teaspoon every 20 minutes. She likes it, and it seems to help her warm up to pellets, hay, and fresh water. She’s still pressing her tummy down, and we still help her with massages.

However, the little girl hadnt pooped yet and I’m still so very worried. I’m thinking simethicone and the vet if she’s not getting better by tonight or next morning because my mum refuses to take her in (too expensive–god help me)

          Hugs!

You seem to be doing the things you can do at home. Simethicone is often helpful. It’s good if she moves about some, that also helps get things moving in the gut.

Thank you so much. We are doing our best, yes. I’m terrified for her hope she poops soon so we all can breathe a little bit.

Will make a trip to the grocery store for some more vegetables and simethicone!

Bad news. No simethicone. I wonder whether it has to be a stand alone thing or is it okay to get any tummy meds with simethicone in it. Can’t risk anything. I settled with a camomile tea for her to sip on. Heard it can help with tummy issues.

There was, however, something called Pure Baby Aise Belly. It’s a herbal mix of (cmiiw) camomile, Mint, lemon balm and something I forgot. I will buy some if she’s not feeling better

More bad news. Arrived home. Chito had not pooped since this morning. Terrified.

Infacol is the name of simethicone in Australia. It is the common ingredient in baby gas treatments. You will probably need to get it from the chemist or pharmacy even though it is not prescription. You really need to get to a vet as there could be underlying causes that require vet treatments or antibiotics and pain medication.

In the interim pineapple juice is an old remedy. It’s not a guarantee but small diluted amounts can’t hurt. Do you have an oral syringe you can feed her with ? Feeding with critical care to get some fibre into her system and keep the gut moving is also worth trying. If you can’t get critical care gring some pellets into afine powder and mix with water and a little juice and feed with the oral syringe.

She’s eating when I handfeed her, Roberta. She’s drinking really well too but there’s nothing from the rear end of the system

Update. Chito finally passed some stool. Never been happier to see poop. She’s been nibbling on lettuce and I put warm water in her favourite bottle to lay next to/be used as chinrest/scratch at, and put extra blankets.

I will still see a vet tomorrow morning at 9 just to check her conditions. Hope the good news continue. *crosses fingers*

Update. Chito had not eliminated at all throughout the night. Bowl is still half-full. Still eating her pellets and hay when handfed. Still zooming and doing binkies.

                            I don’t understand.

The turn around from stasis or bloat can be very slow. Chito is probably feeling a little better having pooped last night but treatment needs to continue so that she doesn’t relapse. Still get to the vet as other treatments might be needed. My Pascal was ill with stasis over a month ago and he is only just coming back to normal.

Oh and movement is good, if she is being active that is great as it will help immensely with getting things moving along.

Thank you so much for the help and support, Roberta. Me and chito are currently in the cab on the way to the vet. I noticed she pooped a bit in her litter box (and peed) and I fear she’s stressed by the trip.

I’m also going to rant because my mum is not cooperative at all in this scenario. When I cried last night worrying my butt out she yelled at me for ‘not understanding the risks of having a pet’. Apparently she thinks that pets get sick and so be it. She woke up earlier than me this morning and she was just ‘chito hadn’t pooped at all’. She didn’t call the vet, didn’t do anything. When chito is alright she’s everyone’s pet and now she’s sick and I’m alone in the fight. I don’t have that much money either and I’m worried about paying for the treatment and all. As far as I know there’s no payment schemes or anything.

So very stressed. My eyes and head hurts. I just hope she’s okay.

Update. The vet said that Chito’s okay and that there’s no poop pellets in her tummy. She tells me to give some prebiotic (any suggested brands? Is yakult okay?). And I will also be trying on the infacol thing to give her a boost. If things get crazy again, I would have to get her to the best exotic vet in town (hella expensive). Hope things will be okay for the little darling.

I’m glad that Chito is better. One brand of probiotic that is widely used for rabbits is Bene-Bac. I don’t know if that is available where you live or not.

I’m so glad Chito is better. I don’t know what types of probiotics you get in Australia but try to find a dairy-free variant. It will still be called lactobacillus something, but that doesn’t mean it has milk in it. There are many different kinds, medirabbit says if they don’t help, at least they won’t hurt.

It can take 2 weeks before the tummy is back to normal after a bout of stasis like this.

Update. I gave 0.2 of yakult, a routine 5ml of the herbs mix every 20 mins, tummy massages and 5 pieces of papaya yesterday and thank God Chito popped albeit mucus-y and misshapen at first. We stopped the herbs and changed to 5 pellets and 1 ml of water per 10 minutes, accompanied with tummy massages. She nibbled on a lot of hay, too, and successfully eliminated every 30 minutes or so, although not perfectly round yet. But I’m very relieved we’ve passed that bend.

She’s currently doing binkies and zooming in the garden. My mum tells me to treat her normally today (still keeping the tummy massages!) and see if anything changes. I’m keeping a very close look at her though. She should come back in at 10AM (she has free range on 6 to 10) and we can monitor her more easily.

Thank you for your support, guys. I think I’d go out of my mind without fellow binkers’ advices in this thread and the forum. (((everybunny)))

Tobyluv, oh that’s it! I kept thinking bene-col instead of bene-bac I didn’t take that one bcs of the sweetener in it, so I stuck to yakult. I think I need to stock a first aid kit now. Will be making friends with the guys at the pharmacy then :>

Bam, right! I consulted the breeder about Yakult and she said it’s dangerous because of the dairy content. Thank God I’ve just given her a single 0.2 dose. Didn’t touch it again after that

We’re both fine now She’s pooping normally and is as active as usual even though I noticed that she likes meatloafing more now instead of just lounging Superbun style. And I suppose she knows that the lack of fiber was involved in her bout of sickness–she’s mowing down lots more hay than usual these days!

                                                      I’m a happy bunny mum.
