        Hey guys,

I run a small animal rescue and recently had a gentleman contact me regarding a bunny who is living in his shed.

He says the rabbit is not scared of people, and will take food right out of his hand.

He’s asked if I can help, but I do not have enough experience with rabbits to know if this guy is wild, or domestic.

I’ve attached a photo, if anyone could help me out, that would be great!

If he is wild, I will contact a wildlife sanctuary in the next town over and see if they can assist.

Looks like your picture didn’t attach: can you describe what the bun looks like? Or maybe post a link instead?

How do I attach a photo?
It’s not working! He’s small and brown with a white nose.
            He’s fairly small

Hmm he has marking very similar to my Usagi. Like the white nose for instance. Everytime someone sees my rabbit for the first time they say he looks just like a wild rabbit except he has blue eyes. So to me the rabbit in the picture looks like a pet rabbit to me. Also if he were wild I don’t think he would be friendly with people either. I see a lot of wild rabbits around here and they run away a lot when they see me.

I think if pushed I’d say that’s a domestic… I’m not sure where you are located, but cottontails tend to have more a more brindle or mottled coat, and I’ve never seen a wild bunny with white on top of it’s nose, only ever under. And I have to agree with Sindriona, that most adult wild bunnies have the common-sense/instinct to stay away from people.

I’m located in Northern Ontario, Canada if that helps at all!
He really seems to be built similar to a domestic bunny, but to be honest, I don’t even really know what wild bunnies in my area look like.
We have a live trap set for him right now so hopefully he goes in and we can get him out of this snow and off to the vet for a checkup!

Looks domestic to me. The face shape, ears, and body type all point to domestic. And yes, the widdle white nose.

There are some pictures of your local wild buns. Notice the huge feet and distinctive coloring.

I would take the leap and say domestic.

Yeah I think you guys might be right. Well hopefully we can catch him and get him vet checked and neutered. Poor little guy!

Those chubby cheeks sure look like a domestic to me. Hope you can catch him soon, and hopefully he’s got more to eat than carrots!

                                  Definitely seems domestic to me!

I don’t know about your area but here wild bunnies have a more petite build to that and don’t tend to have markings. If anything the bottoms of their feet may be a bit lighter and they may have a white chin.

Also the fact that he/she’s friendly and will accept food suggests that he/she is domestic

                                    Awwwwww, I want that bunny!!!

Make sure he/she has dark green leafy things to eat.

We caught him! He is suuuuuuper friendly, and enjoys people a lot. He follows me around like a puppy dog, and loves pets and snuggles. He even gets along with my dog!
I’m estimating him at about 4 months old, he’s very small, and definitely a baby.
He will be remaining a house bunny from now on, he definitely doesn’t have the skills or instinct to survive in the wild!
He seems quite happy with that

I am glad you caught him! I am assuming you are keeping him from what you wrote? If so what are you going to name him? Oh and you need to take some new pictures of him too. I would love to see them!

Radagast is doing wonderfully! The man who originally found him named him, and I think it’s super cute!
He is such a friendly little bun, loves snuggles and pets, and eats like a PIG!

I’m having him neutered this week, and I’m going to ATTEMPT to bond him with my other rabbit, Reggie.
I think being that Raddy is still very young, the bonding process will go a little bit easier. Reggie is EXTREMELY mellow, so I think he’ll be happy having a new friend
