        Hi everyone!
I have a 9 month old mini rex female. She was spayed when she was 6 months. She is about 3.5 lbs and eats a very normal diet (3 greens daily, approx 2 cups and 1/2 cup of pellets and unlimited tim hay).
My concern is regarding her hair loss. She starting shedding about a month and bit ago. The shedding started on her face (which I know is typicaly of a routine hair shed), and the hair grew back. I noticed that she is again starting to shed on her face just a few weeks later. Additionally the shedding through her body has picked up. She started shedding throughout her body just over a month ago and just doesn’t seem to stop. From what I have gathered on the internet this isn’t a typical looking shed- it’s just all over, with lots coming out when I pet and brush her. Her coat all over looks thin and beaten up, and feels thin also. She feels bony- She is not underweight I believe this is strictly due to her thinner coat.
Can someone tell me if this normal for bunnies, particularily mini-rex bunnies or if there is reasons to be concerned otherwise?
        Thank you!

I don’t know about rex fur in particular, but bunnies can shed A LOT and seemingly all at once. About a month ago, Wooly was shedding like crazy. All of the fur on his tummy just came off practically all at once and he looked bald down there. Then it continued in the typical line down his back. It was really weird, but his new fur is all filling in now.

My Mini Rex used to look really rough during a bad shed, like he got into a fight. He’d have big chunks of fur missing. They have such dense fur it makes sense that they shed so heavily.

I don’t have any advice about the shedding other than what has already been said. However, I noticed that you said your bunny eats 2 1/2 cups of pellets a day? That’s way too much for her weight. They should eat 1/4 – 1/2 of a cup per 6 lbs of body weight. Yours weighing 3.5 lbs, she should have 1/8 – 1/4 of a cup per day. My bun weighs 3 lbs and he gets 1/8 cup.

I think it was 2 cups of veggies and 1/2 cup of pellets.
