so at what age is a bunny no longer considered young? I know that they are not ready for getting fixed till around 12 weeks. but at what age is the bunny considered to be a teenager, adult, old…?

Ooo. Let’s see if I can come close before someone else says it.
I believe the teenage years would be considered about the time they hit puberty until, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 years??? Actually, do the teenage years ever really stop? Rabbits can’t show weakness in the wild, so they try to act normal right up to the bitter end. I think old is anything over 8 or 9.
OK you other people. How close am I?

I think between the breeds it kind of depends, but I feel like up to 2 years old is the kind of youth stage, 2 to 6/7 being middle age, and over that being a senior citizen.

I just found several articles that say middle age is 3 to 4 and senior is 5 or 6 with many rabbits spending half of their lives or more as seniors. I am not happy with these articles!

Great question! I would say that teenager stage starts at puberty (3-4 months for boys, 5-6 months for girls) and lasts until one year old. They are then “regular adults” until about 6 years old. That starts the senior years.

You can’t totally judge this by behavior bc this can vary from bun to bun! Some are always perfect angels, some are always mischievous! Lol!

I think 5 or 6 for a senior is not very senior nowadays….I’ve had rabbits who lived 12 and 13 years and I have a friend who’s rabbit lived to be 14…so 5 or 6 is not really a senior age.

Oldest rabbit I’ve seen would of been Tim-tam who made it to 16, my parent’s rabbit Ling is currently 8 and my rabbit, Riley, is 1.
It is supposed to be different between breeds/genders/de-sexed or not/etc tho.
We had Ling since he was a tiny little furball that fit in your hand so I can say he was young until he was about 2 or 3, he only really started moving into proper old age when he was 7. He’s slowed down and finally became a old rabbit who just enjoys sitting in the sun and eating.
