My bunny (Binky) is a very curious little fellow. I was munching on some unsalted Premium Plus crackers the other day when Binky jumped on the bed, stole an entire sleeve, and ran around trying to eat as many as possible before I caught him. It was cute and funny as he was frantic about these crackers!

I know the tops aren’t salted but they do contain salt and other things like baking soda. Is it okay for Binky to have one now and again? He is on a vet suggested no-pellet diet and therefore eats about his body weight in greens and hay each day. I give him fruit as treats but after seeing how excited he was for a cracker I’m concerned he wants something crunchy perhaps?

Any advice is much appreciated! I’m just curious if he needs some more snacks or crunchy nubbles?

        Thank you!

        Ellie & Binky

He probably wanted them because you were eating them. Saltines and other “human food” crackers really aren’t good for bunnies. If you really want to give him some type of cracker, try one of the Oxbow (I’d stick with that brand or another from the BB store) ones for bunnies.

you know how the saying goes the things that taste best or that you like is usually bad for you? That is usually the case for bunnies. I think when we look at from a purely scientific, unbiased point of view, those crackers, no matter how much or little, are not good for the bunny and in general, she should not be consuming them, even in moderation. Plus, there are so many treats that she can have that are easily obtainable, such as fruits (apple, banana, etc.) there isn’t necessarily a need for them. So I would say if you can avoid giving them those crackers, it would be best as to avoid any health issues from potentially arising

Try finding him another tasty but healthy treat. My buns go nuts for any of the Oxbow or Smaks cookies.

Agree with those above and they know better than me anyway but wanted to say…
My hubs didn’t know any better and gave Queen a piece of ricecake he was eating and she went all lovey and snuggly on him. I was stunned.
I Googled and apparently they are on the “no no” list with the crackers but wow she did dig that.
