Do any of you ever give your bunnies collard greens? Can they cause gas?

I give mine them. I usually buy them every other week, and the two buns share 1 leaf a day. I haven’t had any problems with gas, but I don’t feed them much in case.

It’s been a long time but I never had any problems with this when I did give them. Good stuff for humans and rabbits.

LHM – I hate to laugh, but that’s been one of the biggest debates so I have to ask . . . how could you tell? Did you hear it, smell it or both?

                    What are collard greens?

I’ll let you know once I know what they are……

AH – I have no idea how to explain! Maybe, a long wide flat dark green leaf that has the consistency of cabbage but is in the same family as kale? People cook the like other “greens”, sometimes with ham for flavoring, and often put vinegar on them before eating.

Oh ok? Cool! Well, Henry eats both kale and cabbage every night and I’ve never had any issues…..

When I’m at the veggie shop next I’ll ask – I’m super curious! Things we learn on BB, lol!

I still want to know how LHM knew they made Usako fart.

I’m sure we ALL want to know….. LOL!

I only stopped because the place I was buying from made me buy them in big boxes…it’s when I had 12 rabbits. That’s the only reason. I don’t buy it now because I pretty much feed Bobby the same greens everyday and he eats very very little of them because he’s so small. It was just due to practicality not anything else.

Sarita — what greens do you feed him? I’m still looking for a variety that Moshi can tolerate with his sensitive tummy (the girls can eat just about any greens). He’s ok with green leaf, a little red leaf, and a little cilantro. He does ok with basil too but the basil here looks awful. Can’t do romaine. He’s not crazy about dill or wheat grass, but will eat a little wheat grass. After the floppy bunny discussions, I’d like to find something with lots of vitamin E but that’s not high in calcium/oxilates.

You know the vitamin E thing is just a theory of this condition. No one even knows the causes.

Yes, but I figure it can’t hurt if it’s through their regular greens

LOL – of course! His greens are pretty limited because he eats so little but he loves the Dinosaur Kale. He also gets romaine and green leaf. Sometimes I mix in cilantro and parsley (both kinds). I sometimes do basil and Central Market has some baby greens grown in Texas that are a variety that I sometimes pick up. Nothing fancy at all – pretty basic actually. He gets quite a bit but leaves quit a bit too. I do see him eating his pellets from time to time – unfortunately he’s addicted to his Oxbow Timothy Treats, Craisins, and dried pineapple and papaya and those are always gone.

Isn’t that always the case. My lops have decided their new orchard grass hay is candy which is a good thing. I have to really limit treats because of Moshi, and I feel bad about him being the biggest of the three but getting the smallest salad, but even one bite too much will give him soft poop. Green leaf is the only thing he can always tolerate, but I can occasionally throw in a few of the other things for a day or two. Luckily he’s a hay monster and is more than happy with a few oat hay seed heads as a treat.
