We have this festival called Diwali (some of you must have heard of it, its one of the major festivals hre) where people burn fire works like crazy. We burned some too, but none which create noise. But it was quite loud outside. Like any rabbit, Moshu was scared but she dealt with it like a hero. I held her to my chest and gave her kisses, after sometime she got away from me and hid under the bed. She isnt showing any signs that would say she isnt well. She is a bit restless but responding to affection and eating and pooping normally.

I am really concerned about one thing. I went out for half hour when I felt that she’s feeling better under the bed than on my lap, I came back and next thing I see is that she was left unsupervised by my sister and hopping around the packets of sparklers. I freaked out and I am still extremely worried.

Have any of your pets licked/sniffed a bit sparkler dust ? This happened some 3 hours back. The fact that she isnt showing any undesirable signs after 3 hours…should I stop worrying or there may be some slow, latent effects going on inside her ?

I see that sparklers are also used on wedding cakes but I am not sure whether the ones made for putting on cakes has the same or different chemical composition than the ones which we use on Diwali ?

        I am feeling so pathetic.

It’s good of you to show concern about this! Were there any signs that she had chewed on any of them?

Honestly, I feel like she should be fine. If she did sniff any, it likely wasn’t nearly enough to effect her. I mean, my Dutch rabbit has been in rooms with the strong remnants of Lysol before, and he’s perfectly fine. I would just keep a close eye on her. You could also call your vet and ask their opinion.

Keep an eye on her poops and feed lots of fresh hay, perhaps some wet greens and make sure she’s drinking. If by tomorrow, there are no signs of digestive upset, she’ll probably be fine. : )

Thanks HPortland and Stickerbunny. I will keep a close on her..she seems to be normal. Calling a vet isnt really an option. I come from a country where I know more about rabbits than a vet does. I know that by experience.

I have another question. The plants were outside when there were fireworks going on..there was quite a lot of smoke as well. I feed some of those plants to Moshu – wheatgrass, basil, oregano. I think a few sparks might have fallen on them as well. Is it still safe to feed her those ? If not, I will discontinue.

Oh no! I’m sorry! Is there a vet anywhere that you could just call and ask? Even in another state, if that’s the only option. Just explain that your vet that doesn’t know anything, and you’re hours away from any others, and then just ask for advice. Although I think you’re definitely fine in this case as I believe that rabbits usually react quickly to intestinal problems. So you would likely know by now?

As for the smoke, just wash the plants thoroughly in warm water. You could soak them for a bit and then rinse them off. Your bunny should be good!

PS, I know I already said it, but good for you for being so concerned! What a good rabbit owner

Her poops are fine and she’s eating fairly well, so we can be sure that there isnt any intestinal problems. Maybe she never licked any of the sparkler dust. But today she made a few ‘snuffle’-like sounds. About 3-4 times. That might be because her curiosity might have made her sniff the dust.

I am reading about ‘Snuffles’ too. I want to equip myself with some knowledge if in case the snuffing sound could be because of her developing snuffles, I could help her as soon as possible.

Thanks a lot HPortland It really means a lot. I guess taking care of Moshu is one of the very few things that I am motivated towards. I thank you for recognizing my efforts and concern.
