Went to a local pet store to pick up some yesterday’s new for our rabbit and cat.

Seen a person looking at the rabbits there, started talking to them. Told them about the house rabbit society, his they are spayed/neutered, most are litter box trained and they have volunteers to socialize them. And for cheaper than the pet store. She also was going to buy one of the kit cages they sell for rabbits and advised her against it.

In the end I gave her a business card I had for the rabbit society to get all the information she needs. After she left the store employee that was working with the customer complained to the manager about me. I told them if they had an issue I could buy my supplies online from a competitor. I also mentioned that if they want more buisness from rabbit owners they could start carrying the correct supplies for them.

Not sure if I’ll be going back there.

I’ve done the same kind of thing. I’ve also complained to the owner when the bunnies have no hay — the owner’s wife here decided that hay was too messy and they wouldn’t be giving them hay anymore. I don’t shop there anymore, and direct all pet owners I meet to another store in our area that does not sell animals, has much better prices, and friendly employees.

It’s almost shocking sometimes to hear of stores like these. I’m grateful for the well-operated one that I frequent, but it’s too bad that there aren’t more like it.

You’d think that there would be some more laws in place to protect animals in a pet store.

Great job! Pet stores are awful…. Bunny lovers need to educate people because so many pet stores give all the wrong information (and sell all the wrong supplies) so a lot of people are mislead and don’t know any better.

I’ve kicked up a stink at my pet store before, during summer, one of their adoption bunnies was lying on her side, panting, shaking, clearly showing signs of heatstroke. i nabbed a employee and wouldnt leave them alone until they put a cold pad in the cage and changed their water. made for a much happier bun!
