To warn you, this is going to be very long.. So, here we go..

I have been wanting to make an NIC Condo for Midas since I got him. He is living in an xpen right now that looks like this:

This is the original design/drawing I had made for the NIC Condo (I apologize for my bad handwriting)

This is what it was supposed to look like when it was built (Credit for this cage goes to StormyRabbits)

Now, I talked to my mom about all of these plans (I am only in High School), and at first, she approved at said that it would be a great set up. Until she found this..

She got it for free from a friend, and thought it would be perfect for Midas’s cage.

It took me an extremely long time to convince her that that wire flooring wouldn’t be suitable, and she finally agreed to have a wood flooring for this cage. The measurements are about 4x2x3 (guesses, I lost my tape measure) Now, my only problem is that I have no idea into how to make this a working cage. I want doors that easily open so he can get out for floor time. I want two floors. I want it to be wider and thicker.. Help. I have no problem buying any supplies needed to make this an excellent cage, and I see a lot of potential.. But I have absolutely no idea on how to make it happen.

Thank you so much everyone and feel free to share anything that would help me make this a fantastic cage for my baby boy. Hopefully you guys have some amazing ideas. If you have any questions, make sure to ask.

It may be a perspective thing, but it looks like the spacing of the bars is way too wide – should be no wider than 1.5 inches. How much space is between the bars?

Yeah I agree with JackRabbit. He could easily get his head stuck in the bars and he would literally be scared to death, and you wouldn’t really be able to get him out without hurting him.

If the bars are too big you can put some soft type of wire all around it, but it wouldn’t look very good and you might as well just build a NIC condo with the effort.

I’d go with the nic condo if you really want a condo, but honestly, there’s not a thing wrong with an xpen. If you really want a second level or shelf, you could add a second level to part of the xpen and use nic grids on the top of the xpen in that area to provide a “roof” to keep him from jumping out (or attach a pretty piece of fleece with binder clips). Another option would be Beka’s sideways E (I just got hubby to build one and there’s a pic of it in the pic thread).

Kieko has a condo, and my lops have an xpen area. We were going to build them a condo, but decided not to and returned the grids. Check out some of the xpen setups online.

Thanks guys. I was also thinking that the spaces are two large, and I would hate for Midas to get stuck

I definitely want to build a cage.

The space is a bit more than 2 inches, so you guys are definitely right.

No problem! I might also be building a more “permanent” housing thing for my bunnies. (right now they live in an x-pen but I might build them something with wood)!

Have fun adding a second level/building a condo!

                      Good news!

I was able to convince my mom to just build a cage with NIC grids. I told her how if I ever wanted to change the set up, I could easily rearrange it.

I am probably gonna do step by step pictures. But definitely gonna do pictures.
