Dusti has been shaking his head and scratching his hear with his back foot by putting his foot into his ear. He was also sneezing. So I look him to the vet who said they didn’t see anything, but said they symptoms with the pasturella virus. So the vet prescribed a anti-biotic.

Now, he’s still shaking his head and itching with his back foot, but no more sneezing. Is this just a normal behavior for bunnies to do?

Oh boy. I’m all about ears these days!

Is your vet good with rabbits? No offense. It’s just that rabbits will dig and scratch here and there, but if he has an infection, it is likely in the middle ear and antibiotics may temporarily work, but may not be a cure. what antibiotic is he on? Do they see wax or anything down there?

I’m not sure what to look for in a qualified vet so I guess I’m not 100% sure.

When she looked in his ear she said she didn’t see anything, but mentioned inner ear infections are hard to see.

I threw the bottle away, which was really dumb, so I’m not sure what antibiotic he was on.

He’s still energetic and eats just fine. He will just shake his head and, not every time, itch his ear.

Also, when he itches his ear, it’s not always with his foot in his ear.

Is there any other reasons bunnies can sneeze too? Because he sneezes sometimes, but no runny nose or goopy eyes…

my bunny scratches her ear several times a day. So i guess the question is how frequently is your bunny doing it so we have a frame of reference

It depends on the day, but maybe 2-4 times a day.

That doesn’t seem too bad honestly

Okay, I wasn’t sure because he’s also sneezing again, which is why I got concerned

well, i’m not saying you shouldn’t be concerned. If it is just ear itching and scratching in isolation, I think its not a big deal. if there is sneezing along with the itch, it might be more. How often is your bun sneezing? If its sporadic, maybe not a big deal, but if its more common, then again, its different. I think it depends on context

Is this a bad time for me to mention my vet said ear infections can move into the sinuses? Don’t want to panic you, and if there’s not thick discharge MAYBE it’s OK but I just don’t know either and I don’t know if the vet was giving me a bunch of worst case scenarios that almost never happen???
