I seriously need some help. The obvious answer could be right in front of my face but I’m doing a crash course here with bunnies.

Ok, here is a picture of basic lay out where the grates are:

         photo cage_zps0b13e423.jpg

On the back right hand side next to the fencing is my entertainment center/fireplace stand.

3 feet to the right of the fencing, facing the stand is a queen size bed.

Her “must have” claims of territory are  inside the cage except my bed. Hubs is out of town working but says the bed is NOT going inside the cage, lol.

She claimed the corner in the back left of cage as potty area. Her vent is under the window (there is also a vent under the bed she likes so could possibly be willing to give up the window vent- not sure) but my bed seems to be uncompromising to her. She doesn’t really pay any attention to my bed until I go to sleep at night and then she decides she has to sleep there too. This seems to be very serious to her. I know the whole thing sounds a bit wonky like, “just stick her in a cage and ignore her” (so I can get some sleep) but seriously this rabbit communicates and stuff, she’s interactive and has a language and whatnot. I’ve never even had a cat or a dog this communicative, it’s almost like another person. Except it’s a rabbit. (I’m questioning my sanity just typing that.)

Other than this bed issue, she is a really good rabbit. I could let her free roam and access the bed and my room no problem at all except I can’t have 5 of them free roaming at this stage and I don’t see how I can train her to get in and out without the others being able to do the same as they get bigger.

        So that’s the lay out.

Last night I go to bed and turn the lights out- which seems to be the signal for “get in the bed”.

She goes bonkers. Cage rattling, destroying everything inside cage, throwing everything around, thumping her feet and pooping all over the place. Thumping is not normal for her- that’s a pretty serious move on her part.

I call my son in middle of the night and he tells me to ignore her so she can learn to not expect to go to bed. Yeah right.

At 1 a.m. she comes flying over the side of the fence and not only clearing 26 inches up but over 3 feet out landing on my back. Then when I look up at her and mumble, “oh great”, she very calmly eyeballs me and lays down. Fine, go to sleep and we can deal with this tomorrow…..NO. About 2 hours later its LICK LICK LICK (wake up) and then, “Oh you are awake now?” HAIR PULL HAIR PULL (follow me). I sit up in bed and she hops down immediately and stands in front of cage to go back in. Repeat. (Babies and litterbox seems to be why she wants back in.)

I don’t know what to do or how to set up a safe and efficient area for them and especially in a way that still allows her to sleep in the bed. Caging around the bed is where hubs draws the line.

        Help?

Are the others big enough to maneuver steps (like doggy steps)? You said the hubby won’t allow the bed inside the cage, is he going to be ok with her sleeping in the bed? Could you get a king size bed that will allow enough room for all 5?! Is the living room sofa big enough for the hubby to sleep on so you and the bunnies can have the bed?! Does the hubby understand that, now, its ALL about the bunnies and their happiness?!?!?!

Edit: Just to give a little perspective (and a good laugh) … A while back, a BBer posted that her bunny had taken a, special liking to the hubby’s computer chair and she asked for advice on what to do about this. The overwhelming response was to let the bunny have the chair!

So you want to let big bunny have free roam access to the whole room, but confine the babies to the bunny area?

If yes, how high can the little ones jump? If she can jump significantly higher than them, you can give her a hurdle to get in and out at will. A spot in the fence that is low enough (I was thinking a single grid high) that she could get in and out of, but that would still keep the babies in.

He’s sleeping in a hotel right now….I’ll tell him stay there; I’ll just visit him.

Ok, I have it 3 grids high all around and the back levels are fully enclosed with tops.
I can’t imagine how they could get out…but I have some goats that can jump sideways off walls so nothings impossible I suppose.

The babies can jump one grid high, not 2 as far as I know but I’m not sure how long until they can do anything she can do.
When she weans, she will just need to access a litterbox at night…I’m assuming eventually she will just stop night feeding on her own?
If so, eventually I could just let her out at night if she will use a different box and not insist on THAT one inside.

Bunnies can be very insistent about box placement.

Hubby’s going to share the bed with a bunny? How fun is that?? Your hubby should meet mine. Maybe he could convince mine to share with our big guy ha ha…not likely!

Hahaha!! This made my night!! My SO draws the line at buns in the bedroom (they’re in the next room over because I can’t stand having them any further away) but I’m working on him. I would love to let them sleep on the bed!

I’ve had good luck with a second litter box elsewhere as long as he perceived it to be far enough away that going back to the original box was an inconvenience– hopefully your gal will see things the same way. Good luck!

                          It’s 4 a.m. UGH!
I did the obstacle course and she can get in and out all she wants…no problem.
                          So WHY am I awake?
She wakes me up licking my face for NO reason I can tell BUT THEN I realize I am her NEW litterbox!!!
She has pooped ALL OVER ME and the bed.

                          I found this: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/783/Default.aspx

This is awful. It has to be stopped or she can’t sleep here no more. :/

Don’t know if this would help you and I doubt the hubby would appreciate it, but I know of another BBer that put a litterbox ON her bed. Her problem was solved when she got her boy neutered.

That BBer has me beat! I’m gonna have to pass on the litterbox bed, haha.

I immediately changed the linens and washed them with heavy scented detergent and extra dryer scent.
Last night she seemed a bit irritated at me as she was checking out the bed. She spent considerable time investigating the pillow that was not laundered and then tossed it across the bed.
She didn’t poop on anything last night.

My hubs had a 100 lb DaneDobie Mix when we married that would try to sleep in the bed and push me off the couch so he can’t complain much.

I would be most concerned about waking up with a very weird hairstyle and lots of holes in my PJs considering Porky’s grooming habits.

If I sleep with a hairtie in she will pull it out and does rearrange my hair. I’m just hoping I don’t wake up one morning with a bald spot.

This thread is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read! Oh yes, I had a big Californian foster bunny destroy my down comforter and 3 pillows in a matter of seconds, while glaring at me. He was a huge pooper, and he managed to do that while peeing a river, then mashed it all together with his bum.

I don’t suppose you could surround your bed with litter, and sleep on hay? LOL Hubby can just keep sleeping at the hotel.

I’m not making fun. I’m trying to work up the courage to invite Borys into my BR, but I’m also worried about being his litterbox. Nor do I appreciate anyone who can doze on and off all day, then be superactive at the crack of dawn. Without coffee.

                                          Lol….

                                          I am gonna make a confession. Seriously… haha…Ok….

So, my hubs is still working away from home and staying in the hotel. He was going to come home for the weekend but…I went there instead so I could get some sleep without the bunnies. So basically, the buns have the Master Bedroom under their domain now and I am going to the hotel now too, haha.

On another note; I had my 18 year old stay over and bun sit while I was gone. As soon as I came home Queen hid from me and wouldn’t come out. This went on for hours, she’s stubborn and B-O-S-S-Y, but never acted like that before so at first I was worried then thought maybe she had forgotten me or something.
She tolerates getting picked up but does not like being held- I usually only pick her up when she wants me to put her over a side wall or something but I had enough of her hiding and wanted to know what was wrong so I literally dragged her out with her hopping and showing displeasure towards me (not overly so as she didn’t thump or nip at me) and I got her out and set her on the bed and petted her lots (which she isn’t usually fond of either but I was going on pure instinct here as I am not one to push myself off on people/animals and initially spent weeks just sitting in the room eating with her to get used to me), anyywaayysss…. after that she has been friendlier than ever and actually binkied a couple times since then.
                                          She never binkies…she’s Ms. Serious.

I don’t know what that was all about but it reminded me of me when my feelings are hurt and I act like I’m mad and want to be left alone but secretly want to be dragged out and cuddled.
