So last night was the night where we trim all the animals nails and Caleb’s butt fur *it grows fast and long and poop gets stuck if we don’t* and we noticed that Gamgee’s bottom tooth was chipped, it was almost half gone and I really don’t know what to do. I haven’t noticed it until now and probably wouldn’t have noticed because he’s been eating and binkying and acting like his normal moody self. I haven’t dropped him or anything that would explain why it is chipped. I called his vet but they can’t get him in until next friday *doctor is on vacation* any advice? I feel awful that I haven’t noticed before last night, poor little bunny.

Aww poor little guy =( If it seems that he is eating fine, he may just ware down the tooth himself? Maybe give him some wooden chews to help the process go a little quicker? I am pretty new to rabbits so I don’t know if waring the tooth down with a nail filer would be a good idea or now. Can anybody reject/accept that idea?

Definitely don’t mess with the teeth yourself – if you mess something up, it could make the problem much worse than it is now. If there’s no bleeding, and he’s still eating/drinking just fine, then the good news is that you can wait until your vet comes back from their vacation.

Once they do, contact them immediately and ask what you should do. More than likely, they’ll need you to bring bunny in and go from there. Your vet is definitely rabbit-savvy, right? The vet definitely will need to be contacted / seen, though, because a bad grow-back can result in malocclusion, and you don’t want that.

Yes, dont mess with them. However, it is unlikely that your bun is any pain as teeth for them are like nails for us. if you really want to be sure, lift your rabbits’ eyelid and look at the white part of their eye. if it looks unusually red or inflamed, he is in pain, however, don’t mistake a few healthy pink veins for red. My Dwarf rabbit had his teeth trimmed once, even though i knew it wouldn’t hurt him I could barely watch!!

No I would never mess with it myself, my vet is VERY rabbit savvy, I’m lucky that it’s the same vet place I take my dog but it’s a different person just for small animals like bunnies and stuff like that. I already made an appointment for next friday (it’s the soonest I could make the appointment), I just didn’t know if there was anything I could do until then. He has LOTS of willow branch chews that are all natural. He loves them and chews on them pretty regularly. I’ve never had a bunny chip his tooth before. *though these are my first bunnies ever I’ve had my first one for 2 years now and he’s teeth are fine

I don’t know either, but sounds like Emmrenn had a good idea.Maybe a new piece of pine would get him chewing and wearing it down. Yeah, skeeves me to have animals’ teeth trimmed. Like nails on a chalkboard

UPDATE: Hey guys just wanted to let you know how the vet visit went turns out Gamgee just kept chewing on willow branches and had already evened out the teeth by chewing the vet says he’s fine and healthy. Both bunnies are healthy. Little concerned that Caleb lost 2 oz but I know that he’ll gain it back he doesn’t look skinny or anything so I’m happy
