Always on the lookout for something healthy that the bunnies think is a gourmet treat.

The latest find is grapefruit and navel orange rind…not the dark outer bit, but the thick white part right under it. I slice it off with a knife and then dry it in one inch strips.

They love it! I love that it’s healthy, free and not sugar loaded.

The grapefruit one is their special favorite and it dries nicely into a thick crunchy stick, I think they like the crunch as well.

i didnt know they can eat that. seems like a lot of work to strip it.

          can we even eat it?

On grapefruits and navel oranges the spongy white layer is quite thick and not difficult to strip at all with a paring knife.

We can definitely eat it! I usually eat it myself, but I used to have a dog that would pester me until I gave it to HIM…and now my bunnies love it too.

My boyfriend doesn’t care for the “white part” so when I cut his fruit from breakfast, he gets the chunks of pulp and I pare and dry the white bits for the bunnies. Something for everyone!

As far as I know, all parts of grapefruit and oranges are safe for bunnies. If they will eat that part, then I don’t see any harm in using it as a treat.
