My lop Sasha is just about 5 months old now and she was scheduled to have her spay done this month. Unfortunately my daughter had to have and emergency surgery that was not covered by our insurance so any extra money we had has gone to pay medical bills. My issue now is that I have a very territorial and aggressive bunny. She has started to bite when I clean her pen, give her water, or feed her. She has started to grunt and lunge at me when I try to clean her litter and hay boxes out. She even dives into her litter box like superman and tries to bite and scratch at me until I stop what I’m doing and move away. The litter box is what she is most territorial over. She still looks for pets and plays with us but I’m getting a little scared of the biting (my poor fingers and arms). I know every rabbit is different but my other rabbit (who is housed in another area) is also a female and is not spayed because of a medical condition and I have never experienced this with her in the 3 years that I have had her. I’m feeling a little lost with what to do about this until she can get her spay done in January. I’m just hoping you guys can give me some helpful tips or advice on how to deal with or correct some of behavior for the time being.

Many rabbits do become extremely cage-protective. The best thing you can possibly do is to wait until she’s out of her cage – and if she’s really bad, wait until she’s distracted or out of eyeshot – before you clean, give water, or give food. Just don’t go inside her area when she’s in there at all.

I also want to mention that although spaying will likely help with this behavior, it won’t necessarily fix it entirely.

Like you said, everybunny is different!
