For the past couple of days, Merlin has been turning his nose up at his morning veggies. Luna happily munches away, but he leaves a full bowl. He’s still wolfing down hay and pellets live a little vacuum, so theres nothing wrong with him.

I think I know why- our fridge/freezer is on the fritz so the veggies come out a bit icy, I think hes being fussy? I’m going to pick up some new bok choy and leave it out now, but how worried should I be about his hay and pellet only diet for the moment?

Not very worried. I think the biggest risk here right now is that it may cause digestive upsets, but he’s not going to starve and most likely since he hasn’t yet experienced stasis because of this, he likely won’t.

That said, you do want to get him eating greens again as soon as possible. Have you tried other greens? Perhaps he just got bored of the current ones?

The ice may very well be the issue – is there anywhere else in the fridge you can keep them so they won’t get icy?

Gaaah, I tried him with bok choy – no deal. He had a few nibbles and that was it. So far he’s turned off all his favourites – broccoli, romaine and bok choy. Hes happy in his kibble and hay, and is currently striping the bark off an apple branch but thats it. I can’t get hold of him to check if he’s dribbling as I’m worried its his molars. I’ve been told theyre in pretty bad shape before and to keep an eye. Time to go to the vets If it turns out he’s just being fussy I’m gonna turn him into mittens -_-

Haha. If he’s munching his hay just fine, then it might be more of a fuss thing, but the best thing to do is go to the vet and have him checked out again if he’s had issues with his molars before / they’re in bad shape.

Try some other greens first (eg. green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, cilantro) and see if he takes more to these first, and if not, then a vet visit may be in order.

Have you tried moving the veggies to somewhere less “icy” in the fridge? I know my top sheft gets too cold, maybe try a bit lower or in the drawers?

Also, those veggies seem to be a bit more “crisp” in texture? Maybe try something softer?

FLR, btw, I love the new pictures. The bunny loaf in the banner is particularly my favorite

Heheh, thank you! My boyfriend thinks he looks like a giant slipper when he does that and I have to agree.

Rabbits don’t have to eat fresh veg and fruits. They can survive healthily on pellets and hay only. Long as you feed enough pellets, and you chose a good brand, it’s all good. You only need to worry the first couple of days because of the sudden change in diet, but no veg isn’t essential.
