I fixed your picture for you.

Do he get an injection of some kind?

No he didn’t get an injection. I just noticed this on him today.

It does look a lot like a reaction at injection site. What about a topical treatment for mites or fleas? Has he had anything like that recently.

I notice some short fur near it. Is that new fur growing or have you cut away fur near the sore?

              Is he a single bunny?

No she hasn’t had any tropical treamtment for mites and fleas or any treatment really.

I was just pulling back the fur to show it, that’s all.

No, she is with her sister, they are both about 7 months now.

Thanks for helping, let me know what you think.

Could there have been some humping going on? Sometimes fur gets pulled out in chunks during such disputes.

Thanks for all your advice. I’ve been keeping a closer eye on them to check and i noticed “Hershey” biting it. It wasn’t like a fight, more like grooming-like it looked like.

                      Ah! Lol
Rabbits can overgroom each other, especially around the eyes. It’s sometimes called “barbering”.

Oh, yes, it does sound like a case of overgrooming.

Are both of the bunnies spayed?

Ok, Thanks guys,I guess I’ll just go with it being overgrooming.

And no,neither one is spayed, but i think i’ll be taking them in to the vet soon for a checkup and maybe i’ll do that. it seems everyone suggests having them spayed.

                          Thanks again

If they are hormonal, it could be a sore from humping. Some buns will bite on the back or neck area to help them “get ahold of” the bunny that is being humped. Even two females will hump for dominance. Have you noticed any behavior like that?

Hi everyone, my rabbit is having similar wound on his back and I just injected him last month because he was having mange on his feet and it was severe. I didn’t know what causes it at first but after reading your comments I’m having the conclusion that it might be because of the injection. I don’t really know what to do since I’m still a beginner and the reason why I have to inject him myself is because we’re a bit far from the city and there’s no near veterinary clinic at our town. I hope you can help me.

                                Hi midori-chan!

If the wound looks clean and there are no signs of infection (some signs of infection are seepage, fould smell, marked swollenness around the edges, a lump forming underneath), I don’t think you have to do much. You can cut the hair next to it with a pair of small scissors, but if your bun is very squirmy, don’t do it unless there are signs of an infection, in which case you should also clean the wound once or twice daily. If the sore is in a place he can’t reach, you can apply manukka honey on it (if it’s in a place that he can reach he’ll just eat the honey because it tastes like any other honey).

Have a look every day to see so it doesn’t start getting bigger or becomes wet. If an abscess forms (a lump underneath the wound) you’ll need to contact your vet.

                                Did the mange clear up?

This thread is very old, normally we ask our members to not reopen old threads. I’ll keep this open for now though 🙂

@Bam I’m sorry I didn’t know, my mistake for not checking the dates, I was just desperate to ask for help and I’m a new member here. Thank you for informing me. But very much appreciated for your reply @Bam 🙂 The mange has actually healed up already and my bunny’s fur are growing again. I’ll make sure to keep him in check everyday, and I’m not seeing any signs of infections so I’ll just clean it daily. Thank you very much for your help. 🙂 Sorry again for the trouble.

It is absolutely no trouble, we are here to help! I’m happy to hear your bun is already healing up!

You couldn’t know that we ask members not to revive old threads. Most forums demand of people that they find and reply to old threads on the topic of interest. We don’t for two reasons: A) Medical info gets old very fast. Rabbit medicine is rapidly evolving and what was believed to be the best treatment for a condition just a few years back might be completely outdated now. B) Many users subscribe to recieve replies to their threads when they first start it. When several years have passed, it’s likely they’re nolonger active and/or their problems have been resolved.
