As I said on an earlier post, Bramble needs a new cage. The one we have was only ever meant to be temporary until we could let him free roam but I have decided against that. He is only ever in his cage at night but he grew a little bigger than we expected and while the cage he has probably meets the minimum amount of space he needs (he can do three hops and lie down etc) I am planning on getting something else for him when I get paid next week. The plan had been to build a condo but I cant seem to find the parts here in the UK or online that will ship here. Can anyone either offer an alternative suggestion or a suggestion of where I can get what I need to build a condo? I have tried everything I can think of to source those cubes and I have come up totally empty. Leaving him in his pen full time is just not an option due to space, we cant move around it when its up so its not practical if one of us gets up in the middle of the night for something.

I really want him to have something bigger than what he has, even if it is only for night time (he either free roams or is in his huge pen throughout the day).

If an xpen is too big for his nighttime house and you can’t get the NIC grids there, what about another xpen with some panels removed?

I was thinking about maybe getting another, smaller pen for night time but wondered if anyone had any other ideas. I really wanted to make that condo lol

Hmmm the xpen I got is from Midwest its made of panels that are bigger of course I wonder if you cant make a condo using one of them? Or shorten your xpen I played with the size of mine when I was bonding. Its kind of hard to explain I just folded the sides making it smaller but you could do something like JR mentioned above.

Hmm, really? You couldn’t find the storage cubes at all? Did you try Amazon.co.uk or even a hardware / storage store nearby? I’m sure you can find them somewhere… if you can’t find the storage cubes, you could always make a condo using chicken wire (or something similar), untreated wood, and other bunny-safe materials. You may need to get creative if you can’t find the traditional storage cubes.

Otherwise, a smaller x-pen would work well, even if it doesn’t tickle your aesthetic / creative fancies — hey, there’s lots you can do with an x-pen!

I’d suggest just wandering around the largest, closest hardware store you can find and using your imagination to think of what you might be able to make!

You can definitely order the cubes online on amazon really cheap. I couldn’t find them in any stores in EU near me, so I got them on Amazon UK

                  http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HN7X1OK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Really fast delivery, excellent product! I bought 3 packs for a massive condo and a bunch of zip ties and some linoleum and wooden beams to support shelves. Quick and easy big cage

OMG thank you pipje, I looked on amazon for ages and didn’t come across them I must have been doing something wrong. I will definitely get some ordered on Wednesday, I think I will start with just one level until I get some wood to make shelves with. how do you secure the shelves?

No problem! Get lots of zipties. You can get them at a hardware or pound store. You want to criss cross zip ties at every corner you connect and anywhere you feel needs more support, same with the shelves, just connect a row of grids to form the base of the shelf with zip ties, then zip tie it onto the sides of the cage. If it’s a long shelf you may need a wooden beam to support it, but for a shorter one (2 grids) you wont if it is secured with enough zip ties. You can get some cheap carpet or linoleum and punch holes in it then zip tie it onto the shelf.

I took an old dog cage apart and made a big pen out of it. I can fold it etc. I had it spare and glossed the old metal white and it looks great, plus there are two doors.

I had  the same problem and when i found cubes they were quite expensive ( to me that means they were over £20 ) I didn’t get them.

I do not pay for our animals housing, it is all constructed from otherwise free or recycled items.  Make it look good and check its safe and your fine.

We have six rabbits and i’m looking at getting a seventh.

I have been thinking about doing something with a dog crate, but I am not sure where to start to be honest. Just now I am just making sure he is in his pen as soon as we get up right up till we go to bed, other than his free roam time of course which he gets quite a lot of most days. I was going to go for the cubes but I am waiting on my father in law coming back from holiday, he is a joiner so I am hoping he will be able to help me do something a bit creative with Brambles house. Either that or the dining table has to go and I will just put the pen up there with the cage inside and the door open, I am still undecided but I really want to decide soon, its not fair on Bramble really. The only other option I have come up with is to buy a smaller pen for night time, that way he has more space but its not so big that we cant leave it up all the time, I bought a huge one thinking I was doing the right thing by giving him the maximum amount of space but it means I cant leave it up overnight because it blocks off the bedroom door and its too big for any other room.
