My male flemish giant, Hugh, has developed a dewlap! He’s 5 and a half months old, not sure how much he weighs because we are going through a difficult patch and I can’t hold him for a weight.

My buns have unlimited hay and water, and pellets all the time. They also get a full cup of chopped greens a day, and usually a sliver of banana (no more than 2tsps)

Hugh has developed a dewlap, but Jessica hasn’t. She seems slimmer too, but they are flemishes so I am not sure about how big they should be or how hefty.

I have read that you don’t start limiting pellets until they are 7 months old. Is he getting fat or is it just a hormone thing? Both my buns are fixed.

Hugh tucked up, you can see a little of his dewlap there.

Not the most flattering shot! Hugh after a flop 🙂 his belly on display

Hugh and his littermate, Jessica, who doesn’t seem as… fat? I would have expected her to get the dewlap!

Latest photo, dewlap on display and looking FAT!!!!

OR… is this normal body build for a flemish?

Ummm, Have you had the genders confirmed by your vet and has every bunny been in for the snip ?

Let me rephrase that, did you personally take them in for the snip or did they come to you as “desexed”

Yes that is the first thing that crossed my mind too…. Hugh was neutered and Jess was spayed by my vet at separate times over a month ago 🙂

Before Hugh was neutered he was spraying everywhere, and the breeder definitely had him advertised as the male and when I picked him up, said he was the male.
