So I already searched for this answer on this forum/google but it didn’t answer my questions. Yesterday Bun Bun started sneezing around 7 ish maybe? An hour or two earlier or later, don’t exactly remember. He’d sneeze a couple times then grab at the air in front of him as to catch something them groom his face. It’d occur a couple times, not consistently. And he’s not a cuddly bun but he’s not a “No!” to petting bun. He likes to pet and relaxes and can be pet for hours but he never lies down next to you under the blankets. But yesterday when he was sneezing, he lay under the blankets with me and let me pet him for 1 hour maybe a bit more? During the hour he sneezed about five times in different time frames. There’s no discharge in his eyes/nose but his nose is a bit wet but it’s always been like that. It’s not noticeably wet but if you touch it there’s a little moisture. His hay is the same hay from KMS and it’s second cut timothy hay (I’m probably gonna change to bluegrass though since it’s less dusty and sweeter.) It’s fall so there’s really not that much pollen and he’s shedding but it’s near the end so I don’t think it’s fur. I just want to know if I should be worried and take him to vet. I don’t wanna over-react and make my mom pay a hefty amount for something that wasn’t needed but I also don’t want to under-react. I’ve been at school until 3 (just got to the computer now) so I’m not sure how he’s held up but I’ll check up on him after I post this.

It’s quite possibly a URI (easily and cheaply treated), or there might be something up his nose. As for the cuddling – well, that could just be he was in the mood for it that day. Has his behavior changed any more than that? Lethargic, or not eating, drinking, or going to the bathroom? Those are all the big bad signs. If he’s sneezing that much, though, then you may want to take him to the vet – most likely, they’ll prescribe you with Bactrim or Baytril for a URI – that’d be my guess, anyway.

He’s drinking fine and he goes crazy for his pellets like usual. He’s pooping normally and I took him out for his usual 4 hours of playtime and he hasn’t sneezed. Maybe once but I’m not sure if that was him sneezing or my homework papers rustling. He was following me around everywhere begging for treats like usual. Yesterday was his weekly weigh in and he weighed his usual weight, he gained about .6 ounces or so.

It sounds like he probably has a minor URI (Upper Respiratory Infection), which is very cheap to treat – generally the antibiotics go for around $7-$10 or less. But you want to check with your vet first to make sure that this is the appropriate treatment. The other possibility is that he has something up his nose, but this is less likely since there’s no other sign of irritation there.

Do you know what they would do to come to the conclusion he has a URI? I’ve researched on vets and this one was highly recommended but I just want to be sure, you know?

                      Absolutely I do.
A good rabbit vet will be able to diagnose this based purely on symptoms, but they may also suggest taking nasal or trachea swabs and checking the eyes and breathing rate. Nothing too intrusive should be done for such minor symptoms.

Okay, thank you so much! I will be sure to ring up the vet soon
