Hey guys! So as I was cleaning out Theodore’s litterbox today, I set some paper towels down next to me and he hopped over as he usually does when I’m doing this to investigate. He’s encountered paper towels before, but for some reason this time he decided they were great fun, and began shredding them and digging at them. I’m wondering if he’d like little digging box with paper towels inside, and of this makes sense and is safe, I’d love some suggestions on how to get started, or what other materials I should consider using.

        Thanks as always!

I think it would but I also think it might be a bit costly depending on how much enjoys it.

Our digging box is a 24x12x12 cardboard box with a door cut in the side. Contents is balled up unprinted newsprint and balled up kids drawing paper (bought a pad of grayish kids drawing paper at the dollar store), torn up pieces of brown kraft wrapping paper (shipping paper?), cardboard pieces cut into circles, and Carefresh crinkle litter (for color!). The papers now have some tiny chew holes in the. So far nobunny has peed or pooped in it! Moshi likes to drag the paper out of the door, but Marlee loves to burrow in it. I also went to change out the paper the other day, and found that they’ve shredded the bottom of the box. They must have had fun!

(Pretty sure all my materials are bunny safe — if anyone thinks otherwise please let me know!)

Good point! I hadn’t even thought of that.

JR – sounds like quite the set up! Newspaper (non-shiny) of course may be the obvious choice here – it’s definitely safe and free to acquire, so I may go in that direction. When you say a door cit in the side, is this basically just like a hidey box? Is that better than opening the top? I imagine this depends on the bunny… Theodore loves tubes and I have yet to get him one but I think if I get one and attach it to the box he might find that fun.

FLR — right now the box is completely open on the top (flaps just standing up). Moshi did jump completely out the top one time (scared me to death — I was cleaning up the bunny area and he just came flying out of the top of the box!). I’m considering folding the top flaps to they’re sticking straight out to the side, punching holes, and sticking twisted paper in the holes so they’re like streamers for them to play with.
