We recently found out our bunny likes Corn Pops cereal.  We have given a few to her every now and then as a treat.  Is this ok??

NO. Bunnies can’t eat any unatural sugar, or anything in cereal. If you want to give your bunny a treat choose something like baby carrots, strawberry tops and raisins, defiantly not corn pops!

Corn Pops are very unhealthy for rabbits. Their main ingredients are corn, which is a bunny no no. They also have a high sugar content which can cause stomach upset and diarrhea if fed too much. Fruit is an awesome treat, just make sure not to feed more than 1 tablespoon a day.

Yep, cereal is a bunny no no. Fruit (banana, strawberry, apple but NO seeds, or others on the approved list), raisins, carrot, all in moderation. Oat hay tops are ok too. You can also set aside some of your bunny’s pellets for the day and hand feed as treats. Appropriate bunny salad veggies make good treats too. I’ve found that my bunnies even think that hand feeding hay is a treat (mine think that if its hand fed then its “special”!).

I won’t even eat corn pops…haha! The last time I tried I was on the toilet ALL DAY with horrendous cramps. TMI, I know, but it is definitely not good for anybody, much less a rabbit, even as a treat. Try apples or banana

Cereal is not good for bunnies. Just like us, rabbits love unhealthy treats. Unfortunately, unlike us, they have an extremely delicate intestinal bacterial flora which easily can be damaged by too much starch, fat etc. Rabbits need a diet very low in nutrition – that’s how come they eat (and should eat) almost all the time, preferably hay and grasses. That’s the way they were made by nature.

They will still come begging for peanuts, jellybeans and cookies though. Don’t give them any on a regular basis. If a bunny gets tummy-upset it can be very troublesome and may even lead to very serious complications.

That said, some bunnies are more sensitive than others. Not all rabbits drop dead from a few pieces of cereal, far from it. But since it’s genuinely unhealthy we still don’t want to feed it – I’m guessing you want only the best for your bunny since you took the time and effort to write here and ask!

It wont hurt your bunny in small amounts but your bunny will certainly learn to beg at the slightest crinkle of the bag.
